Saucy New Canadian Musical MISS SHAKESPEARE Hits The Gladstone Three Sisters Theatre Company, Ottawa's own indie theatre company dedicated to promoting local opportunities for women in theatre, delights audiences with Miss Shakespeare, a new musical by Kamloops, BC playwright Tracey Power with music co-written with Steve Charles, featuring a powerhouse cast of Ottawa talent including CBC National Triple Sensation II winner, Leah Cogan.

"I want to create something no one would ever believe was created by a woman."

-Judith Shakespeare

It's the 1600s and women are banned from the stage, but the suppressed female mind is finding it difficult to stay... well, suppressed. Behind the dingy walls of The Cage Tavern, six women explore the seductive power of the theatre. With a musical score influenced by underground European Cabaret the women embrace their creativity, their voice, and their freedom. But the law is not on their side and if these artists are to truly have a voice, they must find the courage to get beyond the walls and in front of an audience. Daddy's had his turn-the mad mind of Judith Shakespeare explodes in this saucy new musical. WINNER of the 2016 Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical.

"With women's stories and activism around women's rights constantly in the news, this show is utterly relevant." says Robin Guy, Artistic Director for Three Sisters. "This show has got it all - hilarity and heartbreak, love and hate, brutal honesty and highest hope, all rolled into a luscious musical with gorgeous arrangements and tight harmonies. You can't help but love these characters, you laugh and cry through the story with them."

Miss Shakespeare is directed by Bronwyn Steinberg (her fourth collaboration with Three Sisters), with Wendy Berkelaar as Music Director and at the piano, and Rowena Pearl on string bass. Stage managed by Louisa Haché with Assistant Stage Manager Erika Scrivens, the set and lighting are designed by David Magladry, and costume design is by Vanessa Imeson. The cast features a powerhouse of well-known Ottawa actor/singers including Leah Cogan as Judith Shakespeare, Rachel Eugster as Quiney, Natalie Fraser as Susannah, Tammi Freeman as Isabel, Robin Guy as Katherine, Laura Hall as Margaret, and Andrea Massoud as Hanna.
