Playhouse On The Square Announces its 50th Season The 2018 - 2019 Season at Playhouse on the Square begins with the hit musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder - winner of multiple Tony Awards, this sharp and fast-paced comedy is the story of Monty Navarro - who finds himself ninth in line to inherit a dukedom. He just needs to get rid of eight of his family members first!

The Circuit Playhouse season begins with Junk, a show coming straight from the Broadway stage. Set in the high-flying, risk-seeking, teetering financial world of the 1980s and inspired by the real junk bond kings of the day, this riveting story shows us, from the inside, how money became the only thing that mattered.

Next up on the Playhouse on the Square stage is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the widely popular young-adult novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which introduces us to Christopher Boone - an extremely intelligently gifted young man. After he is accused of killing his neighbor's dog, Christopher sets out to identify the true culprit, which leads to an earth-shattering discovery and a journey that will change his life forever. Opposite Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at The Circuit Playhouse is Little Women: The Broadway Musical - following the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March. Set against the backdrop of the Civil War, Jo weaves her story, and those of her sisters, as they embark on journeys of self-discovery, hope, heartache, and everlasting love.

The Holiday Season at both Playhouse on the Square and the Circuit Playhouse brings two new shows to Memphis along with one beloved classic! Peter Pan will once again be joining us on the Playhouse on the Square stage to bring the classic tale of the Darling Children and their wild adventures to life. Running in repertory with Peter Pan is Sarah Ruhl's For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday - A tender and loving look at a family's view of death, life, and and the allure of never growing up. At The Circuit Playhouse little Miss Junie B. Jones is back with Junie B. is Not a Crook! Junie B. Jones is ecstatic about her brand new mittens - until a dirty, rotten thief steals them! So when she finds a fantastic pen on the school floor, she should get to keep it. Right?

Starting 2019 at TheatreWorks is the World Premiere Production of Back When Mike Was Kate. Four years ago, Kate and Howard parted ways; he brokenhearted, she determined to find her true self. Yesterday, Howard found Kate again: as the tender transgender drifter Mike. Now, Howard will do anything to win back the heart he covets, even if the love of his life is no longer the girl he knew. Back When Mike Was Kate is one of the winners of the 2017 NewWorks@TheWorks Playwriting competition. The second winner, The Miraculous and the Mundane, will be presented in July 2019. The story of a southern African-American family who finds their lives turned upside down when the patriarch falls ill, and ties of kinship start to fray.

January 2019 will bring the regional premiere of Tuck Everlasting to the Playhouse on the Square stage. Based on the beloved novel, Tuck Everlasting is the story of eleven year-old Winnie Foster who yearns for a life of adventure beyond her white picket fence, but not until she becomes unexpectedly entwined with the Tuck Family does she get more than she could have imagined. As her adventure unfolds, Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life, or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey. Opposite of Tuck Everlasting at The Circuit Playhouse is the Pulitzer-Prize winning drama Sweat. Sweat takes us to Reading, PA - one of the poorest cities in America. A group of factory workers struggle to keep their lives afloat - ignorant of the financial devastation looming quietly in the future. Set in 2008, Sweat is a poignant and timely reflection of America's economic decline.

Next up at Playhouse on the Square will be Significant Other. Jordan is single, and finding Mr. Right is much easier said than done. So, until he meets Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of close-knit girlfriends. But as singles' nights turn into bachelorette parties, Jordan finds that supporting the ones you love can be just as impossible as finding love itself. Opposite of Significant Other is kid favorite Madagascar: A Musical Adventure! Based on the uproarious film, follow Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they escape from their home in New York's Central Park Zoo as they find themselves on an unexpected journey of a lifetime.

In the spring at The Circuit Playhouse, is the controversial new adaptation of George Orwell's 1984. Winston Smith is a cog in the giant machine state of Oceania. Under the close eye of Big Brother, Winston has been caught struggling for scraps of love and freedom in a world awash with distrust and violence. With the brutal "help" of four Party Members, Winston is forced to confess his Thoughtcrimes before an unseen inquisitor, and the audience -- which acts as a silent witness to his torture. Opposite 1984 on the Playhouse on the Square stage, is musical classic Cabaret. It's the early 1930s in Berlin, and life is changing. On the horizon, is an ugly and dangerous threat, but that's no concern for sensational Kit Kat Klub cabaret singer Sally Bowles whose only goal in life is to have a good time. Sally soon finds herself living with a young writer, Cliff Bradshaw, visiting from America to work on a new novel. As the Nazis begin taking control of the German government, the atmosphere of the Kit Kat Klub, and the lives of Cliff and Sally, begin to change dramatically.

The 2018 - 2019 season at Playhouse on the Square will finish with the regional premiere of the smash hit Matilda! Based on the Roald Dahl novel of the same name, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind whose talents are constantly belittled by her cruel parents, and hostile headmistress the wicked Miss Trunchbull. Reclusive, but with an ever-growing imagination and sharp mind, Matilda dreams of a better life - and proves that no matter your age, you have the power to control your own destiny. The Circuit Playhouse season will close with The Legend of Georgia McBride. Casey is young, he's broke, his landlord is knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. And to make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a run-down, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business - and himself.
