On Friday, August 17, SMASH stars Katharine McPhee and 'Newsies' Tony Award-nominated actor Jeremy Jordan were photographed in New York City's Flatiron District as they filmed scenes for the upcoming second season of the NBC hit series. On the same day, 'Dreamgirls' star Jennifer Hudson shot a scene for her guest appearance on SMASH's season 2. Get a first look below!
In Season 2, Jordan will reportedly play a Brooklyn singer with a self-destructive streak. This year, the actor was nominated for a Tony Award for his role as Jack Kelly in the Broadway musical, which he began with Paper Mill Playhouse's U.S. touring production in 2011. Jordan has also appeared in Broadway's Bonnie & Clyde in 2011, as well as Rock of Ages and West Side Story in 2009. He guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU in 2008 and appeared in the film Joyful Noise.
Hudson will portray Veronica Moore on Smash. Her character is described as "a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty)."

Hudson's singing and acting career soared with her starring role as Effie White in the 2006 feature film "Dreamgirls." An Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress were among the many accolades that she was awarded. Hudson's other film credits include "Sex and the City" and "The Secret Life of Bees."

From Universal Television in association with DreamWorks Television, "Smash" stemmed from an idea of executive producer and multiple Emmy and Oscar winner Steven Spielberg ("ER," "Schindler's List"). The series' executive producers also include Joshua Safran ("Gossip Girl"), Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Oscar-winning "Chicago," "Hairspray"), Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey ("United States of Tara," "The Borgias"), Tony and Grammy Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman ("Hairspray," "Catch Me If You Can") and Theresa Rebeck ("Mauritius," "NYPD Blue").
