Overture Seeks Musical Theater Teaching Artists For DMIS

Overture Center for the Arts is seeking experienced musical theater choreographers, directors, musical directors, actors, producers and theater education staff to train as teaching artists for Disney Musicals in Schools. The program, currently running at nine Madison Metropolitan School District elementary schools is designed to create sustainable theater programs in elementary schools for students in grades three-five. Through the program, participating schools produce a Disney KIDS musical in their school community and join in a culminating performance at Overture.

Selected teaching artists will receive a paid multi-day training and will be contracted for one year with possible continuation contracts each following year with demonstrated success. Services contracted for will be dependent on each teaching artist's skills and program needs. All hired artists must be available for one weekly after-school rehearsal November 2018 through February 2019.

In addition, based on each applicant's skills and Overture's needs, you will be invited into Overture's cadre of teaching artists for other opportunities which may include professional development, leading residencies, workshops, preshow events, etc. Interested artists are invited to apply online at overture.org/dmis. Disney Musicals in Schools was launched in 2010 in response to Disney Theatrical Production's concern that under-resourced public elementary schools were not afforded equitable access to the arts. After successfully offering the program in New York City schools, Disney Theatrical Productions began collaborating with organizations in other communities across the United States.

Disney KIDS musicals, created in partnership with Music Theater International (MTI), are 30-minute musicals designed for elementary school performers and have been adapted from the classic Disney films 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, The Aristocats, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and Winnie the Pooh.

Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, Wis., features seven state-of-the-art performance spaces and five galleries where national and international touring artists, ten resident companies and hundreds of local artists engage people in nearly 700,000 educational and artistic experiences each year.
