OUTSIDE PADUCAH: THE WARS AT HOME to Make NYC Premiere at the wild project

Poetic Theater Productions, in association with the wild project, are thrilled to present The New York premiere of OUTSIDE PADUCAH: THE WARS AT HOME, written and performed by J.A. Moad II and directed by Leah Cooper.

OUTSIDE PADUCAH: THE WARS AT HOME begins performances on Tuesday, September 26 for a limited engagement through Sunday, October 15. Press Opening is Monday, October 2 at 7 PM.

The performance schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday at 7 PM; Friday at 8 PM; Saturday at 2 PM & 8 PM; and Sunday at 3 PM. There is an added performance on Tuesday, September 26 at 7 PM. Performances are at the wild project (195 East 3rd Street, between Avenues A & B).

A seven-year-old boy struggles to make sense of the screaming in the night after his father returns from Afghanistan. A 50-year-old man works to rebuild his life as he wrestles with the memory of an idealistic son-a teenager turned Marine who came back from Iraq wounded, disillusioned, and broken. And at a bar in the rust-belt remnant of his hometown, a former soldier's midnight encounter brings the past and the present into an explosive reality.

OUTSIDE PADUCAH: THE WARS AT HOME is a searing look at three generations of soldiers and their families, all ravaged by war. An enduring struggle that doesn't end on the battlefield.

Writer, performer, and former Air Force pilot J.A. Moad II brings this astonishing tryptic of plays to heart-wrenching life. OUTSIDE PADUCAH: THE WARS AT HOME received its world premiere at the Bloomington Center for the Arts in Minneapolis.

J.A. Moad II (playwright/performer) is a former Air Force C-130 pilot with over 3000 flight hours and more than 100 combat sorties. He served as an English Professor at the United States Air Force Academy and continues to serve as an editor and blogger for their international journal, War, Literature & the Arts (WLA). His short stories, poetry and essays have appeared in a variety of journals and anthologies, and is the recipient of the 2014 Consequence Magazine Fiction Award. In addition to writing, he has performed on stage at the Library of Congress and at The Guthrie Theater as part of The Telling Project - Giving Voice to the Veteran Experience. His play, Outside Paducah - the Wars at Home debuted in Minneapolis, at the Bloomington Center for the Arts in 2016. He is the driving force behind the Veterans' Voices Initiative in Minnesota to teach the stories of Veterans and their families in schools, colleges and community discussion groups. He currently resides in Northfield, MN where he flies, writes, reads, and spend as much time with his family and friends as possible.

Leah Cooper (director) has been directing, producing, and managing in theater for over 30 years. Based in Minneapolis, she has directed for Workhaus Collective, Mixed Blood Theatre, Park Square Theatre, History Theatre, Pillsbury House & Theatre, Commonweal Theatre, Theatre in the Round, Gremlin Theater, 20% Theatre, Shakespearean Youth Theatre, and The Playwrights' Center. Leah is Co-Artistic Director of Wonderlust Productions, a professional ensemble creating new works driven by community stories. She has been the first Executive Director of the Minnesota Theater Alliance, co-founding Partner at MinnesotaPlaylist.com, and Executive Director at the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Leah consults with many theaters and nonprofits in strategic planning, board governance, systems design, and training. She also spent 10 years in the corporate sector as a software engineer and business consultant.

Based in NYC's historic East Village, Poetic Theater Productions (Artistic Director Jeremy Karafin) seeks to define the modern genre of "poetic theater" by connecting and fostering a community of artists who are passionately creating relevant and accessible work and reinvigorating a conscious theater of language. Poetic Theater Productions offers resources and opportunities for poets, playwrights, and theater artists to create new work and see it through to production via educational workshops, readings and performance.
