MetroStage Opens Season with THE PAINTED ROCKS AT REVOLVER CREEK

Producing Artistic Director Carolyn Griffin announceS that the play The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek by Athol Fugard, directed by MetroStage Artistic Associate Thomas W. Jones II will open the 2018-19 season at MetroStage, running August 30-September 30.

The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek was inspired by the life of outsider artist Nukain Mabuza. In the play Fugard depicts both the brutality of apartheid in the 1980's and the violence and engrained patterns that continue to impact post-apartheid South Africa as well. The farmer's painted flowers and images of the rocks dotting the fields represent an abstract vision of the painter's life. And the interaction with the wife of the farm owner clearly depicts South Africa yesterday and today as it struggles to reconcile its past and its future. MetroStage opened its first theatre in 1987 with the Athol Fugard play, Blood Knot, has produced Boesman and Lena, The Island and Sizwe Banzi is Dead, and this season we will continue to pay tribute to this remarkable playwright with his most recent play.

Performances for The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek will be Thursdays and Fridays at 8, Saturdays at 3 and 8, Sundays at 3 and 7, Aug 30-Sept 30. Tickets are $55 with student and active military and group discounts available with Flex Passes available for 4 or more tickets. Press night is Sunday Sept 2 at 7 pm.
