Melbourne's Emerging Classical Singers Join Forces For A Christmas Consort: The Advent Event Of The Season

What do Saint-Saëns, Catholic hymns and Handel have in common? Christmas of course!

Five of Melbourne's emerging classical singers will consort in December to present three concerts.

A Christmas Consort loves Christmas, and they want to bring the jolly the holly by reinvigorating lesser known Advent songs of the classical repertory in a vibrant and youthful concert setting, putting the stuffy traditions of the "classical concert" format to bed - the only thing they like stuffy is a Christmas turkey!

Core ingredients of the concert include arias and ensembles from nativity oratorios by Hahn and Saint-Saëns, mixed with popular works by Bach and Handel - add just a pinch of tinsel and few heaped tablespoons of Christmas pizzazz, and A Christmas Consort are set to serve up a flaming pudding of Advent music goodness to satisfy all appetites.

The consort will feature sopranos Phoebe Deklerk and Teresa Ingrilli, contralto Alexandra Amerides, tenor Ben Glover and baritone Josh Erdelyi-Götz, and they are joined by pianist Ed Chan for an event louder and more cheer-inducing than a Christmas cracker.

A Christmas Consort welcomes all boys and girls (naughty or nice) to join them on Saturday 1st December and Sunday 9th December at St Mary's Church Ascot Value at 2.30 pm, and on Friday 7th December at St Francis Church Melbourne CBD at 7.30 pm. Bookings are recommended.
