The Howard Community College (HCC) Theatre Program presents Qui Nguyen's "She Kills Monsters." The show will take place in HCC's Smith Theatre, located within the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA), with performances March 15-18. Directed by Theatre Department Coordinator Jenny Male, "She Kills Monsters" will feature current HCC students and guest artists, who will bring this wonderful play to life. "She Kills Monsters" is an action-packed comedy, with a touching storyline.

A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, "She Kills Monsters" tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio, following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly's "Dungeons & Dragons" notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly's refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

"As a certified teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors, I am always looking for a great fight show that would be a good fit for the students," said Jenny Male, director. "However, it is the emotional, raw heart of the play that is the real draw. Yes, the play is about the fantasy world of 'Dungeons and Dragons,' where monsters and demonic fairies roam. Yes, there are exciting adventures and fantastic swordplay. But when you boil down the story, it is really about a sister coping with grief."

Performances are March 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. and March 18 at 2:30 p.m. in HCC's Smith Theatre, located in the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA), 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, Maryland. A free post-show discussion will follow the March 18 performance.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, and $5 for students/seniors/faculty/staff/military. For tickets, visit howardcc.edu/shekillsmonsters or call 443-518-1500. The box office will also be open 90 minutes prior to each show time and Tuesday-Friday, 12-5 p.m.
