West End HAIR to Close - 9/4/2010

The Tony Award-winning revival of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical will bow early in the West End on September 4, 2010, producers have revealed. While the production was scheduled to run through January 2011, the producers have reportedly decided not to recast the show after the current cast's contracts are up on September 4. The production opened at the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End April 14th, 2010.

Seinfeld-Helmed 'Colin Quinn..' Closes in NYC - 9/4/2010

Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and writer Colin Quinn will return to the New York City scene when he debuts his new one-man show "Colin Quinn Long Story Short" directed by Jerry Seinfeld. Due to popular demand, the show will extend its run through Saturday, September 4 at the Bleecker Street Theatre (located at 45 Bleecker Street between Bowery and Lafayette Street). The production began performances on Saturday, June 19th and will now play an eleven week limited engagement.

Urban Research Theater presents PLAY/WAR - 9/4/2010

URBAN RESEARCH THEATER presents the world premiere of PLAY/WAR, an explosive journey through intimacy, violence, and liberation. The performance explores the intermingling of play and war through an encounter between two nameless men, one in army camouflage and the other wearing a business suit. Over the course of the hour-long performance, the relationship of these two men passes through aggressive confrontation, childhood innocence, erotic potential, and more. PLAY/WAR explores contemporary masculinity through original dialogue, choreography, and songs ranging in style from traditional folk and sacred music to hip-hop.


TNC Announces DREAM UP FESTIVAL - 9/5/2010

From August 8 to September 5, 2010, Theater for the New City (TNC), under the direction of Crystal Field, Artistic Director, will present its first "Dream Up Festival," a theater festival that is open to submissions from artists across the country and abroad. It is curated by the theater's Literary Manager, Michael Scott-Price.

Foster, Braff, Cannavale & Graynor Close TRUST at 2nd Stage - 9/5/2010

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director) has announced that Zach Braff, Bobby Cannavale, Sutton Foster, and Ari Graynor will co-star in the world premiere comedy TRUST, written by Paul Weitz, directed by Peter Dubois. Mr. Weitz returns to Second Stage Theatre, where his plays Privilege and Show People premiered in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Directed by Peter Dubois, who staged Second Stage's acclaimed production of Becky Shaw, TRUST will begin previews on Friday, July 23 at Second Stage Theatre (305 West 43rd street) and officially open on Thursday, August 12. The production runs through September 5.

COME FLY AWAY to Close - 9/5/2010

The critically acclaimed Broadway musical COME FLY AWAY will conclude its Broadway run on Sunday, September 5 at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway at 46th Street) after 26 previews and 187 regular performances. Conceived, choreographed, and directed by Tony Award-winner Twyla Tharp and featuring vocals by Frank Sinatra, COME FLY AWAY will launch a national tour in May, 2011 in Chicago. More details on this extensive, multi-city national tour will be announced at a later date.


Mazurowski, McCaffrey & Rush Join BILLY ELLIOT This Fall - 9/5/2010

Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Working Title Films and Old Vic Productions in association with Weinstein Live Entertainment announced today that Peter Mazurowski will join the cast of the 10-time Tony Award-winning Billy Elliot the Musical, in the role of ‘Billy.' Joining him will be Neil McCaffrey and Gabriel Rush alternating in the role of ‘Michael.'


John Barrowman to Host WEST END BARES - 9/5/2010

John Barrowman will host WEST END BARES: STRIP BRITANNIA! on September 5, 2010, the Make a Difference Trust has announced. The show will feature male and female dancers from the West End "strutting their stuff" and will benefit TheatreMAD and the Make a Difference Trust. This show is the first West End Bares event and is based on the popular Broadway Bares series created by Jerry Mitchell. There will be two performances, one at 9:30pm and one at midnight.

Acclaimed American soprano Renée Fleming travels to St Petersburg to join her friend, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, for performances of opera and song in three palaces around the city. Between performances of works by Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Medtner, Renée Fleming guides the audience through St Petersburg to explore the rich cultural heritage of this "Venice of the North". The program will air on PBS's Great Performances series starting on September 1 and the Decca DVD (including additional bonus material) will be available exclusively in the US on September 7.

This is the story of what might have happened, told by the Asmat people. The Man Who Ate Michael Rockefeller will play a four-week limited engagement at the West End Theatre, The Church of St. Paul & St. Andrew, 263 West 86th Street @ West End Avenue. All tickets are $18. BRILLIANT TRACES Opens at OpenStage Theatre - 9/10/2010

While a blizzard rages outside, a man lies sleeping in his remote cabin in the wilds of Alaska. With a bang, a disheveled and bewildered young woman dressed in full bridal regalia bursts through the door. Thus begins OpenStage Theatre's production of Cindy Lou Johnson's witty play, Brilliant Traces, which opens Sept. 10 and runs through Oct. 10 at Nonesuch Theater in Fort Collins. By turns hilarious and ecstatic, Brilliant Traces tells a heartwarming story of love, loss and the unlikely places we find sanctuary.

The Brooklyn Book Festival will be held Friday, September 10th to Sunday, September 12th. The Brooklyn Book Festival showcases more than 200 national and international authors in readings and panel discussions as well as 175 booksellers, publishers, presses and organizations in an outdoor literary marketplace.
