Bedlam's SAINT JOAN Revival Closes Off-Broadway - 4/6/2013

Access Theater will present a 4-week encore engagement of Bedlam's critically acclaimed Off-Broadway revival of George Bernard Shaw's rarely produced 1923 masterpiece SAINT JOAN. In this bold, environmental staging directed by Eric Tucker, Shaw's play is performed in its entirety using an ensemble of only four actors to play all 24 roles. Performances begin March 6 at Access Theater where it will play in repertory with a new production of HAMLET as performed by the same four actors.

Joseph Rescigno Conducts Rare Staging of Rossini's LA GAZZETTA at Paramount Theater - 4/6/2013

Joseph Rescigno will conduct a rare staging of Rossini's opera buffa, La gazzetta, ossia Il matrimonio per concorso ('The Newspaper, or The Wedding Contest'), presented by the New England Conservatory at Boston's Paramount Theater, April 6-9, 2013. The fully staged production with all-student cast and orchestra will be directed by NEC's Chair of Opera Studies, Joshua Major.

'Big Ang' Adds Encore in MY BIG GAY ITALIAN WEDDING - 4/6/2013

The original thought of 'Big Ang' doing one night in NYC at St. Luke's has quickly been changed since she sold out less than twenty-four hours following her announcement on the Wendy Williams show. After receiving hundreds of tweets and facebook messages from angry fans who could not get tickets, she called her agent and immediately asked for another night in 'My Big Gay Italian Wedding.' She said, 'I fell in love with the cast and crew of this show during rehearsals and I think Broadway could be what I was born to do!'

L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center Screens I STAND CORRECTED; Jennifer Leitham to Play at Reception - 4/6/2013

StandOut Productions and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center present a screening of the award-winning documentary I Stand Corrected, followed by a hosted reception and a concert by the film's subject, transgender jazz bass virtuoso Jennifer Leitham. This special event celebrates the one-year anniversary of the film's premiere and is a rare opportunity to see the film and Ms. Leitham's acclaimed trio in one evening.

TBTB's ACCORDING TO GOLDMAN Begins Previews at Theatre Row - 4/6/2013

Off-Broadway's Theater Breaking Through Barriers (TBTB) continues its 33rd Season with the Off-Broadway premiere of ACCORDING TO GOLDMAN by Bruce Graham (THE OUTGOING TIDE, ANY GIVEN MONDAY), with previews set to begin April 6, prior to its official press opening April 14, at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre (410 West 42nd Street). Laura Jordan to Join SILENCE! THE MUSICAL on April 6 - 4/6/2013

Beginning Saturday, April 6th, Laura Jordan will join the cast of Off-Broadway's smash hit SILENCE! The Musical as Clarice Starling. Following the announcement that SILENCE! would be ending its long run at the end of 2012, ticket sales unexpectedly soared, shattering all previous box office records held by the show. Subsequently, the producers determined that the production would reopen on January 19th. After opening initially at Theatre 80 on July 9, 2011 to unanimous rave reviews, SILENCE! was extended numerous times by popular demand and transferred theatres twice, ultimately landing at the new Elektra Theatre in Times Square which was constructed especially for the show.

HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER Begins Spring Schedule - 4/6/2013

Earlier this month, the producers of the hit Off-Broadway comedy HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER added an extra performance to the weekly playing schedule. Due to continuing increased demand for tickets, they are adding yet another performance to the schedule on Saturday evenings beginning April 6th at Sofia's Downstairs Theater in Times Square.

Alan Cumming's Solo MACBETH Begins on Broadway - 4/7/2013

According to The New York Times' ArtsBeat blog, Alan Cumming's one-man production of Macbeth is heading to Broadway. It will begin previews April 7 for an opening on April 21, 2013, at the Ethel Barrymore Theater. Once's John Tiffany will direct alongside Andrew Goldberg.

Deborah Voigt Plays 'Brunnhilde' in the Met's RING - 4/13/2013

Soprano Deborah Voigt has embodied Puccini's "Golden Girl" - the pistol-packing, poker-playing barmaid Minnie, one of her favorite roles - in productions of La fanciulla del West from San Francisco to Chicago to New York over the past few seasons, including the centennial revival of the work at the Metropolitan Opera in 2010. Voigt reprises her Minnie at Opera Royal de Liege in Belgium from February 22 to March 5. The soprano resumes another of her all-time favorite roles, Wagner's Brunnhilde, in Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung from April 13 to May 11 at the Metropolitan Opera, in Robert Lepage's production of the Ring cycle. Later in May, Voigt makes her performance debut in China with orchestral concerts in Beijing and Shanghai.
