Revised Version of Schwartz's WORKING Closes at 59E59 Theaters - 12/30/2012

59E59 Theaters has announced the Prospect Theater Company production of WORKING, from the book by Studs Terkel, adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, with additional contributions by Gordon Greenberg. Songs are by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers & Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz, and James Taylor. Directed by Gordon Greenberg, WORKING begins performances on Saturday, December 1 for a limited engagement through Sunday, December 30.

ORPHANS, Starring Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf, Goes On Sale 12/30 - 12/30/2012

Tickets for Broadway's ORPHANS, starring Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf, will go on sale to the general public on December 30. Lyle Kessler's play will be directed by Daniel Sullivan. This production will begin performances on March 19 and open on April 7 2013 at the Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street); this will be the first Broadway staging of the play. Frederick Zollo and Robert Cole are the producers.

Lauren Snouffer and John Holiday Featured in Ars Lyrica Houston's A VIENNESE NEW YEAR - 12/31/2012

The Grammy-nominated early music ensemble Ars Lyrica Houston envelopes its guests with festive music by the legendary composers of the Viennese royal court at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2012 at 9 p.m. at Zilka Hall, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The concert program featuring two rising stars of the opera stage - soprano Lauren Snouffer and countertenor John Holiday – will include arias and duets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Christoph Willibald Gluck. The magnificent instrumentalists of Ars Lyrica Houston will perform works by J.H. Schmeltzer, Johann Joseph Fux and Johann Strauss, the "Waltz King."

THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY Returns to Irish Rep - 1/2/2013

Off-Broadway's Irish Repertory Theatre has announced an additional three weeks for its hit revival of Brian Friel's THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY – with performances to resume January 2 (following a hiatus beginning November 25) on the Irish Repertory's Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage (132 West 22nd Street). Performances are set to run through January 20. Ciaran O'Reilly directs.

Patrick Stewart Joins Renee Fleming for Lyric Opera of Chicago's THE SECOND CITY GUIDE TO THE OPERA - 1/5/2013

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today that the respected stage, film and television actor Patrick Stewart will co-host The Second City Guide to the Opera on Saturday, January 5 with internationally renowned soprano and Lyric Opera creative consultant Renee Fleming. The opera-themed comedy-variety show will take place at 8 p.m. in the Ardis Krainik Theatre of the Civic Opera House, N. Wacker Drive and Madison Street.

INFLATABLE FRANKENSTEIN Plays The Kitchen for COIL Fest - 1/5/2013

As part of the eighth edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 (PS122) and The Kitchen present the world premiere of Inflatable Frankenstein from Radiohole. One of New York's most tenacious and beloved ensembles explores the cultural legend of Frankenstein – everyone's metaphor for nearly everything. Source material includes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, James Whale's classic Frankenstein films, details from Mary Shelley's tragic life, the work of Antonin Artaud and parts of over 100 "Frankenstein" films. Inflatable Frankenstein is blood chilling and completely strange; filled with whimsical creature fantasy, technological absurdity, electric air and bodily fluids.
