Metropolitan Playhouse Presents UNDER THE GASLIGHT - 12/19/2009

Metropolitan Playhouse, "theatrical archaeologist extraordinaire" (Backstage), presents a revival of Under the Gaslight, by Augustin Daly. First presented at the New York Theatre in1867, Under the Gaslight will be revived in Metropolitan's home at 220 E 4th Street November 20th through December 19th, 2009.


SWIMMING TO SPALDING Previews At HERE - 12/19/2009

Performer Lián Amaris goes in search of renowned monologist Spalding Gray's "perfect moment" in SWIMMING TO SPALDING. Co-produced by East Coast Artists and Colorado College, it is directed by Richard Schechner (formerly of The Performance Group). Previews begin December 3 at HERE with opening night slated for December 6.


NY Philharmonic Launches CONTACT! Series At The Metropolitain Museum Of Art - 12/19/2009

The New York Philharmonic will launch its new music series, CONTACT! - an initiative created by Music Director Alan Gilbert - with two concerts of World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Commissions by emerging and established contemporary composers, Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. at Symphony Space, and Saturday, December 19 at 7:00 p.m. at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.


John Tartaglia Joins the NYC Pops for THE POLAR EXPRESS Holiday Concert - 12/19/2009

According to reports from Carnegie Hall, Tony nominee and Avenue Q alum John Tartaglia will narrate the holiday children's classic The Polar Express in concert with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall this season. The production will take place in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage on Saturday, December 19 at 2pm. The concert features a score by Alan Silvestri, who also wrote the music for the 2004 feature film adaptation of the event.

The New Group's world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan's play The Starry Messenger, at Theatre Row has extended one week. The production to now close on Saturday, December 19. The New Group is presenting the world premiere of The Starry Messenger as the first production in its 2009-2010 season. This production is playing a limited Off-Broadway engagement, that began previews on October 26 with an official opening night on November 23. The production was initially slated to close on December 12.

Sands, Osnes & Winningham to Star in BONNIE & CLYDE at La Jolla Playhouse - 12/20/2009

La Jolla Playhouse announced today the addition of the world-premiere musical Bonnie & Clyde, to its 2009-10 season, replacing The Big Time. This production features music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel), lyrics by Tony Award-winner Don Black (Sunset Boulevard, Song and Dance), book by Ivan Menchell (The Cemetery Club, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), and direction by Jeff Calhoun (Deaf West's Big River and Pippin, Grease!). Bonnie & Clyde will run November 10 - December 20, 2009 in The Playhouse's Mandell Weiss Theatre.


'Angry Young Women in Low Rise Jeans with High Class Issues' Set to Return - 12/20/2009

Matt Morillo's iconic comedy, "Angry Young Women in Low Rise Jeans with High Class Issues," returns to Theater for the New City December 3 to 20. The play is a light-to-serious look at the psychology of nervous urban goddesses.


Bellamy, White, Curtin and More Join Johnston and Chlumsky in SO HELP ME GOD! - 12/20/2009

As previously reported, My Girl's Anna Chlumsky and Kristen Johnston are set to headline the Mint Theater Company's SO HELP ME GOD! The Off-Broadway run, which will begin previews November 18th, opens officially at the Lucile Lortel Theatre Dec. 7 and runs through Dec. 20. Today, the full cast and creative team have been announced.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo, and The Acting Company Producing Artistic Director Margot Harley have announced that The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, written by Rebecca Gilman, based on the novel by Carson McCullers, directed by Doug Hughes, will begin performances Friday, November 13, 2009, at 7pm, at NYTW, 79 East 4th Street, between Second Avenue and Bowery.


Real-Life Married Couple Paige Davis & Patrick Page to Star in I DO! I DO! at The Old Globe - 12/20/2009

Real-life married couple Paige Davis and Patrick Page will star in a special engagement of I Do! I Do!, the classic Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt musical based on The Fourposter by Jan De Hartog, in The Old Globe's new Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre. The well-loved classic, by the creators of The Fantasticks, spans five decades in the life of a married couple - from the nervousness of their wedding day to the wisdom of old age. I Do! I Do! will run Dec. 11 - 20, 2009. Previews take place on Dec. 11 at 8:00 p.m. and Dec. 12 at 2:00 p.m. Opening night is Saturday, Dec. 12 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale to subscribers only. The title translates as "Stifters Things."

NBC Kicks-off Holidays with 'Sing-Off' Competition Series - 12/21/2009

NBC plans to spend the holidays with a new music competition series. Network sources have confirmed "The Sing-Off," in which a cappella groups compete for a Sony Recording Contract, will premiere Monday, December 14 at 8:00/7:00c. Additional episodes (all at 8:00/7:00c) will also air Tuesday, December 15 and Wednesday, December 16 with the season finale on Monday, December 21. Each installment will run two hours.

The producers of Broadway's hottest hit announced today that Mary Murphy of FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" will make her Broadway debut for one night only on Tuesday, December 22nd at 7 PM, when she "quicksteps" into the BURN THE FLOOR company at the Longacre Theatre. She will join the dance juggernaut that has taken Broadway by storm, breaking box office records and extending its limited engagement. The show, originally announced for a 12 week engagement, has been extended through January 3 2010. Mary Murphy will be partnered with ballroom champion Vaidas Skimelis.

The upcoming film adapation of Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit's "Nine" will be available for purchase beginning December 22nd. The soundtrack, to be released by Geffen Records, will include the full score with the addition of three new songs written specifically for the film, entitled "Guarda la Luna", "Cinema Italiano" and "Take It All".
