THE RAP GUIDE TO RELIGION Extends Through Dec 13 at Soho Playhouse - 12/13/2014

After an acclaimed premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Soho Playhouse announces the extension of the New York Premiere of THE RAP GUIDE TO RELIGION, a new musical written by and starring Drama Desk Award nominee Baba Brinkman (The Rap Guide to Evolution). Directed by Darren Lee Cole, performances of this Off-Broadway premiere, which opened October 10, will now run through December 13 at SoHo Playhouse.

THE PLACE WE BUILT - a new play by Sarah Gancher that marks the 2nd annual production from the Clifford Odets Play Commission - will receive its debut December 11-14 at the Marilyn Monroe Theatre (115 E. 15 St. Lee Strasberg Way) in Manhattan. The play is presented by the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and the Lee Strasberg Center in collaboration with NYU Tisch School of the Arts Undergraduate Department of Drama.


SOUL DOCTOR Opens Off-Broadway at Actors Temple - 12/14/2014

The producers of the new Broadway musical Soul Doctor, about the life and music of Shlomo Carlebach and his unlikely friendship with Nina Simone, announced today that the show will return off-Broadway to the Actors Temple Theatre (339 W47th Street) with previews beginning November 25, 2014 and opening scheduled for Sunday, December 14.


The New Group's STICKS AND BONES with Holly Hunter & Bill Pullman Opens - 12/14/2014

The New Group has announced today complete production dates for David Rabe's Sticks and Bones, the first production in the company's 20th Anniversary Season. Previews begin Tuesday, October 21, in advance of an Official Opening Night on Thursday, November 6. As announced earlier, Sticks and Bones, directed by Scott Elliott and featuring Richard Chamberlain, Nadia Gan, Holly Hunter, Morocco Omari, Bill Pullman, Ben Schnetzer and Raviv Ullman, will play a limited Off-Broadway engagement through December 14 at The New Group at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street).


La Jolla Playhouse Closes THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME - 12/14/2014

Due to popular demand, La Jolla Playhouse announces a week-long extension for its U.S. premiere production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, featuring a score by the multiple Academy, Grammy and Tony Award-winning team of composer Alan Menken (Newsies, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin), book by Peter Parnell (The West Wing, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) and direction by Scott Schwartz (Playhouse's Jane Eyre, Broadway's Golda's Balcony). Produced in association with Paper Mill Playhouse, by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions, The Hunchback of Notre Dame will now run October 26 - December 14, 2014 in The Playhouse's Mandell Weiss Theatre.


CSC Extends ALLEGRO Through 12/14 - 12/14/2014

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick, Managing Director Jeff Griffin, and Executive Director Greg Reiner, announced today that its new production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's ALLEGRO, directed by Tony Award-winner and CSC Associate Director John Doyle, now in previews at CSC (136 East 13th Street) will extend its limited engagement through Sunday, December 14. The official opening night of ALLEGRO is Wednesday, November 19. The cast of ALLEGRO features George Abud (Charlie Townsend), Alma Cuervo (Grandma Taylor), Elizabeth A. The Met Opens English-Language HANSEL AND GRETEL - 12/18/2014

Continuing a tradition inaugurated in 2006, the Met will offer a holiday presentation this December and January: an English-language performance of an opera, with special weekday matinees and discount pricing designed to make the Met affordable for families with children. This year's production, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, opens December 18 and will star Aleksandra Kurzak, Heidi Stober, and Andriana Chuchman as Gretel; Christine Rice and Jennifer Johnson Cano as Hansel; Michaela Martens and DWayne Croft as Gertrude and Peter, the wayward children's parents; and Robert Brubaker as the wicked Witch who captures them. Sir Andrew Davis will conduct all seven performances of the opera, which plays through January 8. There will be special weekday matinees at 11 a.m. on December 23 and December 30.

The Daily Mail writes that Tamsin Greig will star in the West End in WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, based on Pedro Almodovar's 1988 film. Bartlett Sher returns in the director's chair for the production -- he helmed the Broadway cast in 2010. 'BREAKDOWN' begins previews at The Playhouse Theatre on December 20, with an opening slated for January 12, 2015.
