Chicago Philharmonic Presents SOUND OF CHANGE, 2/19

Relive the music of a generation when the Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players (cp2 ) present "Sounds of Change," a celebration of music from the 60s and 70s at City Winery Chicago. From Hendrix to Shostakovich, the transforming world spread its message though the music of the times. As some artists protested against war and tyranny, others broke the molds of established forms. The Chamber Players perform an uplifting, entertaining ode to this rebellious era. Doors for the noon concert open at 11 AM, and brunch will be available for purchase before and during the performance. Approximate run time: 1 hour.

"Sounds of Change" is the second of three concerts in the Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players' Spring 2017 Series at City Winery Chicago. The series will continue with "Mozart & Mimosas" on March 19.

About The Chicago Philharmonic Society

The Chicago Philharmonic Society is a collaboration of over 200 of the highest-level classical musicians performing in the Chicago metropolitan area. About The Performers

Vocalist Bethany Thomas is a Chicago performer known for her expressive, genre-defying style and audacious re-interpretations of classic tunes. A Jeff Award-winning actress, Bethany's credits include Chicago Shakespeare, Second City, Milwaukee Rep, Court Theater, Writers' Theater, and an appearance in the second season of Empire (FOX). As a singer/songwriter, Bethany has performed and/or recorded with Robbie Fulks, Barrellhouse Chuck, Syl Johnson, JC Brooks and Jess Godwin to name a few, and just recorded an album in Muscle Shoals with her frequent collaborator Jon Langford, and famed producer Norbert Putnam (to be released on Bloodshot Records this fall.) She has performed in numerous programs for WBEZ, WFMT, and the Chicago Humanities Festival, and was a featured local artist in Renee Fleming's Chicago Voices Project at the Lyric Opera. Bethany is a regular contributor at Salonathon and The Paper Machete, and will star in Porchlight Music Theater's spring production of Stephen Sondheim's Marry Me A Little. Check out her upcoming Hideout Residency- a different show every Monday in March (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th) culminating with the release of her debut EP, "First".

Carmen Llop Kassinger has performed in the violin section of the Chicago Philharmonic for twenty seasons! In addition, she has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera, Grant Park Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, Lake Forest Symphony, and Music of the Baroque. Carmen received her undergraduate degree in violin performance from Stetson University as well as a Master of Music from the University of Miami.

Lisa Fako, violin, counts Betty Lambert, Victor Aitay, and Joseph Silverstein among her teachers. She has performed at festivals including Tanglewood, Aspen, Strings in the Mountains, the Moab Music Festival, and the Woodstock Mozart Festival, as well as numerous chamber music recitals live on WFMT radio. A busy freelancer in Chicago, Ms. Fako performs regularly with the Chicago Philharmonic, as well as the Lyric Opera, The Lake Forest Symphony, The Elgin Symphony and many others.

Monica Reilly, viola, has been active as both a performer and educator on the Chicago music scene for nearly three decades. She has played in the viola section of many of the region's orchestras including the Lake Forest Symphony and the Ravinia Festival Orchestra. Most recently Monica has focused her efforts on pursuing her love of chamber music and is a founding member of The Ravenswood Chamber Players.

Margaret Daly is a freelance cellist who has been with the Chicago Philharmonic since its inception. She is a member of the Lake Forest Symphony and the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra. She also plays with many area groups including Chamber Opera Chicago, Chicago Opera Theater and Grant Park Festival Orchestra.
