"Flamenco does not act out tragedy, it is a tragedy.

It makes no poetry, it is poetry.

It does not need exuberance to express itself. It is content to cry out."

-Anselmo Gonzalez Oliment "Flamencolecia"

Manila, Philippines-- Fundacion Centro Flamenco (Centro Flamenco), the country's premier flamenco dance school, will stage the full-length original flamenco ballet titled "La Luna Roja" (The Red Moon) at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium (RCBC building, Makati) on November 25-26.

Directed by Leo Rialp and choreographed by Emma Estrada, artistic directress of Centro Flamenco, "La Luna Roja" unravels a dark fairy tale, which involves an unrequited love, a curse, and freedom at the cost of a true love's sacrifice--told through the passionate, fiery art expression that is flamenco.

Joining the predominantly local cast of dancers are guest artists from Spain, including Javier Martos, also the show's co-choreographer, who plays the romantic lead "Jamil," as well as a trio of musicians: singer Sergio Gómez "El Colorao", guitarist Rubén Campos, and percussionist (cajon) José Cortez.

Acclaimed stage actress and trained flamenco dancer Tami Monsod, who plays the sorceress, professional flamenco dancer and teacher, formerly based in Singapore, Angel Gomez, and members of the Grupo Nuevo Flamenco are also part of the company.

About Centro Flamenco

Established in 2004, the Fundacion Centro Flamenco (Centro Flamenco) aspires to celebrate the rich heritage gained from the close historical bond between Spain and the Philippines by creating a center where teachers and musicians of Spanish music and dance can share and promote the culture--celebrating these artistic influences in each performance.

The Center continues to explore the innovative styles in the flamenco dances and their interpretations without losing touch with tradition and the captivating soul of the flamenco. It has opened its doors to foreign professors and established artists of flamenco to share and give workshops, which encourage the interaction among local and foreign artists and students.
