Canberra Theatre's ALICE IN WONDERLAND Star Georgina Walker Discusses Her Take on the Title Character

Brisbane Times recently chatted with Georgina Walker who is playing the title role in Canberra Theatre's Alice in Wonderland.

"I'm 27 now but it's like I've never aged at all," Walker says, of the fact that Alice as a character is in fact a child.

Walker believes that Alice represents the audience in Wonderland, and her reactions are a reflection of what the audience sees in the show. She believes that if Alice is able to accept all of the oddities Wonderland has to offer, the audience will too.

However, Alice isn't just a naive little girl. "She's not afraid to disagree with them," Walker says. "She's not afraid to question the ridiculousness."

Walker started at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School when she was 14, with a focus in classical singing, and then went on to study musical theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Since then she has worked in Sydney and Melbourne with credits including a Sydney Opera House concert production of Leonard Bernstein's Wonderful Town in the role of Eileen and a Sydney Fringe Festival production of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George as Dot, what she describes as her "bucket list role."

The show brings together a team as eclectic as Wonderland itself.

"Our set designer, Zachary Lieberman is from Los Angeles, our graphic designer Yi Ling, is from Singapore and our Emmy Award-winning costume designer, Diana Eden, is from Canada," Walker says. "Throw these talented people in with our Australian director, Penny Farrow, and you already have an international group of people being united through the work of Lewis Carroll."
