Beef & Boards Dives Into 2019 With Eight Exciting Musicals

Revealing a lineup that boasts eight exciting musicals, three of which are new to its stage, Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre presents a sense of nostalgia for its 46th Season.

The season opens Jan. 4, 2019 with Neil Simon and Marvin Hamlisch's They're Playing Our Song, a funny, romantic show about an established composer and his relationship with a quirky aspiring female lyricist. Profesionally, their relationship is in harmony, but personally their relationship is out of sync! Nominated for four Tony Awards, They're Playing Our Song is on stage through Feb. 3.

Grease is the word starting Feb. 7, as the popular movie-turned-musical cruises onto the Beef & Boards stage. It's 1959 and Sandy's the new girl at Rydell High School who happened to have a summer romance with the school's coolest greaser, Danny. But the school's social waters are tougher to navigate. The hit score includes "Greased Lightnin'," "You're The One That I Want," and "Summer Nights." Nominated for seven Tony Awards, Grease is on stage through March 31.

Starting April 4, dance on over to spectacular 42nd Street, the Tony Award winner for Best Musical. It's the story of young aspiring Broadway performer Peggy Sawyer, who is called upon to save the show when the star is injured. Famous songs include "Shuffle Off to Buffalo," "We're In The Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," and "42nd Street." On the Beef & Boards stage for the first time in 14 years, 42nd Street continues through May 19.

Dive into the Disney favorite, The Little Mermaid, Beef & Boards' 2019 Family Show, starting May 23. Nominated for two Tony Awards and making its Beef & Boards debut, this musical is based on one of Hans Christan Andersen's most beloved stories and the animated film. Life under the sea is difficult for the mermaid Ariel, who wants to explore the human world above in spite of the warnings of her father, King Triton. When she rescues and falls in love with the human Prince Eric, she bargains with the sea witch Ursula to trade her tail for legs. This production features Beef & Boards' $10 Family Show Discount off tickets for all kids ages 3-15, and is on stage through June 30.

Summer heats up with the nostalgic sounds of 1950s hits in another new show to the Beef & Boards stage, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story. Opening July 5, this jukebox musical tells the true story of Buddy's incredible rise to fame, from the moment in 1957 when "That'll Be The Day" hit the airwaves until his tragic death less than two years later on "the day the music died." The show features more than 20 of Buddy Holly's greatest hits, including "Peggy Sue," "Everyday," "Oh Boy" and more, plus Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba" and the Big Bopper's "Chantilly Lace." This Tony Award nominated musical is on stage through Aug. 18.

Starting Aug. 22, welcome to the '60s for the big, bold, beautiful hit Hairspray. Lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire - to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden celebrity. She uses her newfound star power to dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the affections of teen heartthrob Link Larkin, and integreate a TV network - all without denting her 'do! Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, Hairspray is on stage through Oct. 6.

Just in time for Halloween, sci-fi hits the stage with the deviously delicious Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors! Meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" after his coworker crush. The plant reveals itself to be an R&B singing carnivore, who promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn, as long as he keeps feeding it blood! It's up to Seymour to save the planet from Audrey II's goal of global domination.

The holiday season gives the gift of the final new show to the Beef & Boards stage in the 2019 Season: A Christmas Story, The Musical opening Nov. 21. Based on the movie of the same name, A Christmas Story, The Musical is set in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana, in the 1940s. Young Ralphie Parker wants nothing more than to find an Official Red Ryder bb gun under the tree on Christmas morning, and goes to great lengths to achieve his goal. All the iconic scenes from the film are included in this Tony Award nominated musical, which is on stage through Dec. 22.

The Pyramid Players will present two new productions for their 2019 Live Theatre for Kids series. Designed to entertain children of any age, these shows are a great way to introduce preschoolers to live theatre. Youngsters also have the opportunity to meet the cast after the show for pictures and autographs.

First on stage for the Pyramid Players is Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat. Everyone's favorite cat comes to mischievous life in this theatrical adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic. On stage Feb. 15 through March 2.

Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr. is the fall production, on stage Oct. 18 through Nov. 2. Lewis Carroll's famous heroine comes to life in a delightful adaptation of the classic Disney film..

Performances take place on select Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Performances last one hour, are presented without intermission, and include juice and a snack.
