Review: THE DOLLS: DRAGGED UP, King's Theatre, Glasgow

Agnes and Sadie (aka The Dolls) are in a bit of a pickle. The pair usually work as cleaners but it just isn't bringing the money in. When they see a competition for drag queens they decide to enter themselves and try to trick the judges into thinking they are men masquerading as women.

The Dolls: Dragged Up is not a show for the easily offended. With bad language, bawdy humour and generally distasteful content from the get go, the tone is set for the rest of the performance.

The show is very much in the style of an adult pantomime and Louise McCarthy and Gayle Telfer Stevens include the audience in their journey. The strongest point of the evening is the musical numbers from the two which are incredible camp and reminiscent of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

The Dolls are the epitome of Scottish Variety performance. Utterly obscene yet somehow charming, this is not a show for the faint-hearted. It might not be for everyone, but this is certainly an act that knows its audience and gives them a great night out!
