There's a thrill coming your way at the annual Northern Area Performance Theatre Awards (NAPTA) at the Ellerslie Events Centre in Auckland on the 24th February.

The evening has earned the reputation of being a highlight on Auckland's social calendar.

A cabaret show, 3-course meal, awards evening and the thrill of being part of something special as you're welcomed with a complimentary drink on arrival.

Who doesn't love a night of glitz'n'glamour? This year the cabaret show has the theme Murder Moulin Rouge Style. Theatrical superstar Kit Haines is directing and promises excitement plus when Auckland Community Theatre supporters get together to celebrate, recognise and appreciate all those who make theatre 'happen' and keep it alive.

The committee of the Northern Area Performing Theatre Awards, a registered charitable trust formed in 2001, to recognize, support and celebrate community theatre, works hard to put on a fabulous night.

A talented Musical Director (Sister Act 2017 and Evita 2016) he's been the Chairperson of the NAPTA Trust for a year. Prior to that he has been involved with the Trust for the last 12 years one way or another.

Johns reminisces running about in his pyjamas at his Grandmother's house while the NAPTA meetings were on in her lounge. It's in the blood and a person with theatre in their blood flies the flag with a determination the All Blacks would struggle to equal.

There's nominees and awards, there's recognition of all those who volunteer and there are scholarships to assist those who want to develop their craft. But just as importantly all those involved are acknowledged and celebrated in the spirit of theatre.

Well known as one of New Zealand's most versatile performers Helen Medlyn will be MC for the evening.

She is a busy lady appearing most recently as Mother Superior in Sister Act at the ASB Waterfront and toured with NZ Opera's The Mikado both last year.

Helen received a Member of the Order of Merit (MNZM) in the 2103 Queen's Birthday' Honours List for services to the performing arts and is a much loved and respected performer.
