BIG PIANO Workout Powers Bodies and Brains High Above NYC
This may be the most uniquely New York City-inspired workout ever created. From Pilates on Fifth's fitness experts and former Radio City Rockettes Katherine and Kimberly Corp comes the Big Piano class! Located right across from the New York Public Library, and 22 stories up, this fun and challenging mind/body workout incorporates the same type of Big Piano made famous in the movie "Big"! This one-of-a-kind class improves agility, balance and mind/body coordination while participants tap out familiar songs like "Heart and Soul", "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", even Mozart and more. Harvard neurologist, Dr. Marie Pasinski calls it "...the perfect brain/body workout". Big Piano classes begin at $40 for a 55-minute session and are limited to four participants per class. Introductory specials and private sessions are also available. For more information, please visit https://pilatesonfifth.com/ or call (212) 687-8885. Pilates on Fifth is located at 501 Fifth Avenue at 42nd Street.
According to Katherine Corp, "Learning the steps to each song quickly raises the heart rate while working all of the muscles of the body. The workout is done barefoot or in socks to make sure the important muscles and joints of the feet work, too. Simultaneously getting the patterns for the musical notes down fires the brain beyond any other type of workout we've ever experienced." Co-creator Kimberly Corp adds, "Kids love it because it's fun. Adults are enjoying the challenge. Our older clients are experiencing breakthroughs in the ways in which they've been using their bodies."
Remo Saraceni, inventor of the Big Piano loves what the Corp sisters are doing: "Pilates on Fifth has created one of the most exciting uses for my Big Piano. I'm thrilled that people will be working their bodies and minds with their innovative workouts."
In a city where fitness studios come and go Pilates on Fifth has been keeping its dedicated customers fit since 2000. With Pilates as the foundation of their business, identical twin owners Katherine and Kimberly Corp continue to add innovative equipment and classes including their own SilkSuspension, CoreAlign, Barres & Belles and more. The redheaded duo both majored in East Asian Studies at Duke University, followed by Master's Degrees in International Economic Policy from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Then, they broke tradition and became professional dancers, dancing on an international tour with a world-renowned magician and then two years with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Their entrepreneurial vision and professional dance experience led them to the fitness industry. Both are certified by the American Council on Exercise and the Pilates Method Alliance. In addition to running Pilates on Fifth, the sisters developed the Pilates Academy International, educating and training Pilates instructors around the globe. With no membership fees, Pilates on Fifth welcomes both locals and visitors to Manhattan. The Corps both speak, read and write Japanese. Their Pilates on Fifth Online app brings their classes to anyone at any time. Follow them on Twitter at @UltimatePilates and on Facebook at Pilates.On.Fifth.
