Aux Dog's Shakespeare Presents Noir Adaptation Of MEASURE FOR MEASURE

Albuquerque in a Duke City Noir treatment replaces Vienna in Aux Dog Theatre's adaptation of Measure for Measure, Shakespeare's most subversive comedy, opening Friday April 13, directed by V. J. Liberatori.

The city is experiencing an 8-year crime wave and suffering from a bus project boondoggle. The Duke decides to start enforcing the laws because politicians and populace have gone completely out of hand, and puts Angelo in charge - with unexpected consequences.

A subversive comedy about wealth and corruption, religion and faith, and forgiveness and mercy. "Some rise by sin and some by virtue fall," Escalus says in response to Angelo's order to execute Claudio. When Claudio's beautiful, deeply religious sister, pleads for his life, Angelo proposes an evil bargain.

The production is part of Aux Dog's Shakespeare 505 program, which adapts the Bard's work to New Mexico.

The cast includes Caitlin Kelly as Isabella, Nick Ganjei as Angelo, Blake Magnusson as the Duke, Jack French as Claudio, Lisa Fenstermacher as Mistress Overdone, Ryan Montenery as Lucio, Scott Bing as Escalus, Ericka Zepeda as Mariana, Bradd Howard as Pompey, Michelle Varela as Michelle, Joshua Ball as Elbow, Spencer Scott as Froth/Friar Peter, Nick LoCicero as Bernadine/Tough Guy, and Marissa Johnson as Jujlietta.

Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Special group rates for high school students are available - call 505-596-0607. Tickets can be purchased online at auxdogtheatre.org or by calling 505-596-0607 or at the box office before the performance.
