ARCO Chamber Soloists to Perform Final Concert in 2017 Series Next Month

In September, the ARCO Chamber Soloists bring together outstanding chamber musicians to perform the final concert in the 2017 series - this time taking their wonderful 'HIP' performance style and period instruments to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and the Blue Mountains.

This exquisite Revolutionary Romance concert will feature the beautiful, rich sounds and textures of Classical period strings performing the most sublime chamber works by Mozart and Spohr, along with Australian star of the basset clarinet Nicole van Bruggen, based in Noosa. The ensemble also features Melbourne musicians Rachael Beesley (violin, director), Simon Oswell (Viola) and Natasha Kraemer (cello) -as well as Sydney's Anna McMichael (violin), UK-based Jane Rogers (viola) & Mimé Yamahiro-Brinkmann (cello) - returning from Stockholm.

Whilst Spohr introduces us to a revolutionary Romantic world of string playing,
Mozart is at his best in the famous Clarinet Quintet, written for the Viennese master-clarinetist Anton Stadler. The Grande Sestetto Concertante, familiar to audiences as Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, will be performed here in the magnificent chamber music version.

Under the Artistic Direction of renowned musician and educator Richard Gill AO,
the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra is a world-class orchestra of leading Australian musicians brought together from around Australia and internationally where they may be based. What they share is a dedication to the performance of Classical and Romantic orchestral and chamber music repertoire in historically informed style (HIP) on period instruments. This inspiring and highly influential period of composition from the late 18th and 19th centuries demonstrates the depth and passion of the time and, when placed in context, the music comes to life in way that - according to Gill - "takes your breath away!"

Audiences and critics have agreed, and since its inception in 2013, ARCO's reputation and audience-base have grown exponentially! The orchestra also provides opportunities for engagement and education with wide audiences through broadcasts and specialist music education programs.

Nicole van Bruggen is ARCO co-founder and principal clarinetist as well as a member of its Artistic Team. She studied modern clarinet at the Sydney Conservatorium and was awarded the Queen's Trust Scholarship to continue her studies abroad. Consequently, Nicole moved to The Netherlands where she graduated with a postgraduate degree
in historical clarinet and HIP from the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague.
She recently returned to Australia after seventeen years in Europe including engagements as principal clarinet in many of Europe's finest historical instrument orchestras.
