A FINE BRIGHT DAY TODAY Closes Peninsula Players' Winter Play Reading Series

Peninsula Players Theatre presented a reading of "A Fine Bright Day Today," a new play by British playwright Philip Goulding, on Monday, April 2 at Björklunden. "A Fine Bright Day Today" was produced as the final installment of The Play's the Thing, a winter series of play readings organized by Peninsula Players Theatre.

"A Fine Bright Day Today" is a warm and gently funny play about love, loss and second chances. Participating in the reading were performers Amy Ensign ("Almost, Maine,") Mark Moede ("The Full Monty,") Penny Slusher ("Lord Arthur Savile's Crime,") and Greg Vinkler, the Peninsula Players' artistic director who also directed the reading.

Vinkler will be directing the Peninsula Players autumn production of "Salvage" by Joseph Zettelmaier. This intriguing drama was a huge hit of the 2017 winter play reading series as was "Miss Holmes," a riveting murder mystery by Christopher M. Walsh, based on characters by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

"With 'Salvage,' I thought if I read it from beginning to end without stopping that it would be a good sign," Vinkler said. "I literally couldn't put it down. Then our audience went on the same journey at its reading."

The 2019 winter play readings are slated for performances Mondays,February 4, March 4 and April 1 and play titles will be announced at a later date.

The Play's the Thing is funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin, as well as generous grants from Door County Medical Center, Friends of Door County Libraries and operating funds from Peninsula Players Theatre.

Peninsula Players Theatre is America's Oldest Professional Resident Summer Theatre. The Play's the Thing is part of the Players' continuing winter outreach programming, presenting professional play readings for the public.
