A CHRISTMAS CAROL: THE MUSICAL Comes to City Theater

This holiday season, City Theater in Biddeford will present the holiday masterpiece A Christmas Carol the musical written by Tony Award winners Alan Menken and Lynn Aherns. This thrilling musical adaptation of Dickens' classic tale by the same creators as Beauty and the Beast and Sister Act reawakens the true spirit of Christmas with a heart-stirring tale of beauty and redemption. A Christmas Carol is playing at City Theater in Biddeford from November 30th through December 16th.

A Christmas Carol the musical first premiered at the Paramount Theatre in Madison Square Garden in December 1, 1994 and was performed annually until 2003. In 2004, the production was adapted for television and produced by Hallmark Entertainment for NBC. A Christmas Carol the musical adapts Charles Dickens' well-known story of Ebenezer Scrooge as a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others, greeting Christmas cheer with an infuriated "Bah! Humbug!" However, thanks to the guidance of three ghosts, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful, "Happy Christmas!"

The powerhouse team at Biddeford City has again created a production that will give your holiday season extra warmth and sparkle. Re-imagining this production with a fun and funky "Steampunk" theme, co-Directors Linda Sturdivant and Caleb Lacy, Musical Director Nell Britton, and Choreographer Mariel Roy have assembled an exceptionally talented cast of local artists. The cast includes Bob Gauthier (S. Portland) as the penny-pinching and miserly Scrooge, Tad Williams (Biddeford) as Bob Cratchit, Schuyler White (Kennebunk) as Jacob Marley, Mary Johnston Letellier (Buxton) as Ghost of Christmas Past, Sara Sturdivant (Haverhill, MA) as Christmas Present, Brett Balfour as Mr. Fezziwig, Lynn Boren-McKellar (Saco) as Mrs. Fezziwig, and introducing Keira Baily (Lyman) as Tiny Tim.

The colorful and fanciful imagery have been created by Scenic Designer Karl Carrigan, Scenic Painter Jessica Chaples-Graffam, and Lighting Designer Florence Cooley. The Victorian costumes with a Steampunk twist have been created by Alysa Avery, Carol Brown, Hannah Brown, Wendy Brown, Barbara Kelly, and Brian McAloon.

Don't miss A Christmas Carol the musical at City Theater in Biddeford. Nov 30th - Dec 16th Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30 Sundays @ 2:00. (There is no performance Dec 2.) Tickets are $20 and available at 207-282-0849 or www.citytheater.org
