GIANTOLOGY

Michael Hackett

COMEDY/STANDUP

“Fall off your bar-stool funny!” says Barry from some pub in London.

“Uplifting” echoes Barry’s mate as he clambers back onto his.

But don’t take their word for it... Can you really fit in when you’re 6’7” or 204cm above ground? What if you go through life speaking your mind in places you shouldn’t? This comedy giant is no stranger to putting his big-foot in things.

Starting his debut tour in Australia, Michael Hackett brings the critically acclaimed (by Barry of course…!) Giantology show to the Adelaide Fringe Festival. His aim? To rip apart the status quo. Playing with the audience, he’ll weave you into his story. He’ll pull you into his surreal world. Taking you on weird journeys, he’ll have you laughing, maybe crying. One thing’s for sure, you’ll soon see life differently through Michael’s bird’s eye view! So quit the small talk and come see this giant of a man and giant of a show – a hilarious and unique spectacle at this year’s Fringe.

Michael Hackett

Biography

Michael Hackett is a Manchester born comedian who’s been performing stand-up for over four years in various comedy clubs around the UK, Europe and Australasia.
In 2017 he performed his first solo show Giant Misfit as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Off the back of this he was signed by AEH and invited to host the UK’s sellout Octoberfest to 2,500 people.
Now, in 2018, Michael is set to take his new solo show Giantology on a world tour, starting in Australia, moving onto New Zealand and Germany before bringing it home to comedy festivals around the UK and Edinburgh’s Fringe.

When it comes to how he got here and long before his comedy career began, Michael trained as a dentist but realized he was no good at it. Besides being a massive 6’7”, he couldn’t fit in. Struggling with the pretense of it all (and perhaps a little more), he soon found himself fired as the dentist at a maximum-security prison. Moving to London but only spiraling further, he worked dismal stints in beauty salons and dodgy clinics until finally he’d had enough.
To the shock of medical friends and the disappointment of his family, Michael jacked in his life’s career to set upon a journey of discovery…a journey that wouldn’t be smooth.
As his first move, he eloped to clown school in Paris. Unfortunately, finding he didn’t fit in with clowns either, he left to join the circus as a double trapeze artist. One year in he tearfully saw his left testicle damaged by his trapeze partner swinging off it by mistake. This was when the real change happened. Maybe it was the excruciating pain that caused Michael to see the light or maybe it was something else, but on recovery, and doing what he really should have done in the first place, finally he picked up the mic!
His first show was in Sheffield in a small pub, playing to 30 people. It went well. He was on stage for 13 minutes which, for a beginner, was longer than most. Since then, performing hour solo shows and going from strength to strength, he now plays to audiences of several hundred, even thousands and, loving every minute of it, has never looked back.
With the wildest stories to tell and the some of the most insightful life lessons learned, Michael’s style is rogue, his experience unique. This, combined with such playfulness, is why he is now fast becoming one of the most exciting people to watch…. and laugh your ass off at!
