Little Shop of Horrors will open the new season at Theatre Lawrence, today, September 19-October 5! Winner of the best musical of 1983, this affectionate spoof of 1950's Sci-fi movies became one of Off Broadway's longest running shows. First seen as the 1960's black comedy by Roger Corman and screenplay by Charles Griffith, featuring Jack Nicholson, it then opened as the rock horror musical in 1982. The show combines the musical styles of 60's rock 'n' roll, do-wop and MoTown and includes several well known tunes such as Skid Row (Downtown), Somewhere That's Green, and Suddenly, Seymour.

All performances (except Sundays, which are 2pm) are at 7:30pm.

Seymour Krelborn (Michael Dieker) is a nerdy florist assistant who works at a down and out flower shop operated by cranky Mr. Mushnik (Marion Constantinescue.) His co-worker and love interest, Audrey, (Erin Fox) is in a perilous relationship with a sadistic dentist, Orin (John Robison.) When Seymour discovers a fiendish plant that craves human flesh to survive, he faces the dilemna of losing his true love or his new found fame. As the plant comes to life, it is voiced by Andrew Ramaley. The audience will get to see the plant, Audrey II, as it grows through the 4 stages of development, from small hand operated puppet to a monster that fills the stage.

An urban chorus of street urchins Crystal, (Melia Stockham), Ronette (newcomer Raemona Spicer) and Chiffon (newcomer Clara Lehr) narrate the story. Additional cast include "derelicts" played by Heidi Rios and the puppeteers, Mario Bonilla, Liam Elliot and Kay Traver.

The production is directed and choreographed by Terrance McKerrs. Mary Baker is the Music Director and pianist, with musicians Valance Penn, Genée Figuieras, Matt Pelsma and Tim Clark.

The Theatre will literally roll out a red carpet on September 19! Theatre patrons will enter via red carpet and enjoy champagne, hors d'oeuvres and paparazzi. Our gratitude to Crown Automotive, Lawrence Bank, Paul Davis Restoration, Cork & Barrel (23rd) the Lied Center and Alvamar Country Club for their participation in this grand occasion.
