The King of Tiny Things brings to Carriageworks Theatre on Tuesday 27 October a beautiful, emotionally rich story to engage children and adults alike, starring four of the world's most exciting circus artists. With storytelling, circus skills, puppetry and music, there's genuinely something for all ages.

Based on the children's book by award-winning author Jeanne Willis, The King of Tiny Things follows two young sisters camping in their grandparents' garden, who meet the King of Tiny Things, a winged shepherd of all who 'creep & crawl or buzz their wings'. The stunning, luminescent puppet King introduces them to a series of creatures who need their help, each brought to life through a different circus discipline; a juggling Slug who's lost her slime, a contortionistCaterpillar struggling with the changes he's undergoing, 3 acrobatic Baby Batsand a stilt-walking Daddy Long Legs taking her first steps in an adult world.

Including eight original songs, by award winning composer Jon Nicholls(Shared Experience; National Theatre), The King of Tiny Things aims to re-educate young audiences to celebrate creepy crawlies & the world around them and explore the change and fears around the shift every child goes through in becoming an adult.

Metta Theatre are committed to creating work for young audiences with a strong aesthetic & a high level of technical skill - presenting young audiences with high quality performance to inspire and remember throughout their lives. The company creates theatre that wears its theatricality on its sleeve: meta-theatrical works that tell stories that include the audience in the act of telling. Recent productions include: Mouthful (Trafalgar Studio 2), Cosi fan tutte (New Theatre, Oxford), Alice (tour), Arab Nights (Soho Theatre and touring), Old Red's Cupboard(Bush), and Waiting (Southbank Centre).

Jeanne Willis is an award-winning children's author, published worldwide. She has written over 150 books including picture books, novelty, teen novels and poetry. She was shortlisted for the Whitbread for her novel Naked Without a Hat, won the Smarties Silver for Tadpole's Promise, the Nasen Special Needs Award for Susan Laughs and many more besides.
