Blurring the lines between live art, dance, theatre and fine art, The Famous Lauren Barri Holstein plunges into the ghostly underworld of popular culture. Examining the myth of Medusa, Nicki Minaj and her own legendary self(ie), Notorious examines pop culture's take on the female monster.

A pioneer in the field of performance and live art Holstein's irreverent blend of music, dance and witch-bitch ritual searches for redemption in the face of promiscuity. Combining pop culture with striking physically embodied visuals, The Famous continues to take risks with this new interdisciplinary performance following on from Splat! which sold out at the Barbican in 2013.

Splat! was commissioned by SPILL Festival of Performance, and was named Time Out's 'Critic's Choice in Dance', one of Time Out's 'Must See Shows of 2013', one of The Stage's 'Dance Picks of 2013', and one of The Guardian's 'Theatre Picks'. A segment on Splat!, and The Famous' wider practice, was featured on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour in 2013.

Notorious examines the ways in which popular culture, social media, and neoliberal consumerism have significantly redefined the ways in which we relate to the female body, the figure of the witch, and public shaming.

Since 2010, The Famous Lauren Barri Holstein has developed a substantial body of performance pieces including Splat!, How to Become a Cupcake, How 2 Become 1, Lady Love, Cherry Pop, Women are Pathetic and How to be Amazing presented at venues including The Barbican, SPILL Festival, In Between Time Festival, Fierce Festival,?Duckie,?Fresh?AiR,?The Basement (Brighton), FEM Fest (Spain), and Abrons Art Center (New York), gaining respect and notoriety within the Live Art world.

Lauren Barri Holstein holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London on 'The Agency of the Displayed Female Body: The Political Potential of Negative Affects in Contemporary Feminism and Performance' and has published several articles and book chapters on the subject. She has also guest lectured at various universities, including Queen Mary, University of London, Chelsea College of Art and Iceland Academy of Arts.
