Thandie Newton to Star in DEATH AND THE MAIDEN at the Comedy Theatre
An upcoming production of DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, set to play London's Comedy Theatre, will reportedly feature silver screen star Thandie Newton.
DEATH AND THE MAIDEN is an award winning political thriller drawn from author Ariel Dorfman's native Chile, where roles are reversed when a torture survivor turns the table on her suspected oppressor.
Newton made her film debut in Flirting (1991). She gained international recognition in the Merchant Ivory production of Jefferson in Paris as Sally Hemings, which led to her being cast in Jonathan Demme's Beloved (1998), in which she played the title character with co-stars Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover. Newton was honoured with a BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actress in 2006 for her role in Crash.
Newton told The Daily Mail that she'd wanted "to do a play 'for years' but the timing, for various reasons, was never right."
The production will start rehearsing this September for performances beginning October 13, with an opening night scheduled for October 24.
