Holt Festival has announced that Stephen Fry will be introducing John Hurt's charity performance of Iranian play White Rabbit, Red Rabbit on Friday 25 July.

White Rabbit, Red Rabbit by Iranian writer Nassim Soleimanpour was written to be performed by a different actor each time with no rehearsal and no director. This audacious play simply has a sealed envelope waiting on stage for the actor. It was written by Soleimanpour at the age of 29 to travel the world when he couldn't. At the time he said 'I was born on Azar 19th, 1360 in Tehran. That's Tehran, December 10th, 1981 in Christian years'

The play has been performed all over the world to universal critical and audience acclaim and has become a multi award winner. When performed by the unmistakable warmth of John Hurt it promises to be a sensation.

Soleimanpour was 29 and forbidden to leave his country. White Rabbit, Red Rabbit dissects the experience of a whole generation in a wild, utterly original play that is both thoughtful and playful. Forbidden to travel, he turns his isolation to his own advantage with a play that requires no director, no set and a different actor for every performance.

This is the only currently planned performance of White Rabbit, Red Rabbit in England and will be preceded by a drinks reception with John and Stephen before Stephen introduces the show and welcomes John Hurt, one of the county's most distinguished actors, to the stage.

All proceeds from performance will go to PEN International, a worldwide association that promotes human rights, freedom of expression and friendship and co-operation among writers everywhere.
