Tony Kushner's A Bright Room Called Day is set to play at Southwark Playhouse's Little space from July 23 to August 16.

New Year's Eve. Berlin. 1932. A group of artists and communists throw a decadent party to celebrate the night, blissfully unaware of the political changes to come. But as the country succumbs to the seduction of Nazism they are forced to choose between integrity and survival.

Shocking and provocative, the play caused a sensation when it was first performed in 1987, dividing critics and audiences alike. From Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Tony Kushner, A Bright Room Called Day examines the darkest reaches of the human heart.

'Brash, audacious, intoxicatingly visionary.' Chicago Tribune

'A juggernaut of a play' San Francisco Weekly

'Not since Williams has a playwright announced his poetic vision with such authority' The New Yorker

'Astonishingly modern. Heartstopping.' Michael Billington, The Guardian

Casting and further creative details to be announced.
