Official: Sheffield Theatres' Season to Include PRIDE & PREJUDICE, SHOW BOAT & More

With Crave and 4.48 Psychosis about to open in the Studio as part of the Sarah Kane Season and Arthur Miller's Playing for Time in the Crucible, Artistic Director Daniel Evans announces the company's new season.

Isabella Laughland and James Northcote will lead the company of Tamara Harvey's production of Pride & Prejudice this summer; which will be followed by the previously announced production of Lucy Prebble's The Effect directed by Daniel Evans, and Sheffield People's Theatre's co-production with Slung Low of Camelot: The Shining City.

This September Freddie Fox makes his Sheffield Theatres debut as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet directed by Jonathan Humphreys, who returns to the theatre following his productions of Boeing-Boeing, The Village Bike and Happy Days.

Associate Director of Sheffield Theatres, Charlotte Gwinner, directs the regional première of Deborah Bruce's The Distance. She previously directed the play at The Orange Tree Theatre, who will be co-producers for the Sheffield run. Sheffield's Third Angel, who have their home at the Crucible, celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. As part of their retrospective, the company brings their 2006 première Presumption back to the Studio in association with Sheffield Theatres.

Completing the season, this Christmas Daniel Evans will direct Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II' s timeless masterpiece Show Boat on the Crucible stage.

In addition to the work at the company's homebase, their work can be seen across the UK with Evans' production of Anything Goes (in a co-production with Stage Entertainment), and David Hare's The Absence of War (in a co-production with Headlong and Rose Theatre Kingston) currently on tour.

Before then, we look forward to welcoming a wealth of young talent to Sheffield, as Isabella Laughland and James Northcote lead our production of Pride & Prejudice as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy.

"This celebration of our youngest and brightest actors continues when Freddie Fox stars in Jonathan Humphreys' new production of Romeo &Juliet - the first at the Crucible in 20 years. Meanwhile I'm looking forward to directing a seminal work of American musical theatre, Show Boat, our most ambitious Christmas production to date. I'm delighted that we're continuing our strand of regional premières with Deborah Bruce's play The Distance, which was a smash hit for The Orange Tree Theatre last year. Also, we're so happy to be celebrating Sheffield theatre company Third Angel's 20thbirthday with a partnership bringing one of their early successes, Presumption to the Studio stage.
