HighTide Festival Theatre and Lucy Jackson today announced the transfer of Vickie Donoghue's début play MUDLARKS to London's Theatre503. The play will run May 29 to June 2 at 7:30p.m (matinee June 2 at 3pm).

This is the second transfer from HighTide Festival 2012 following the previously announced Ella Hickson's BOYS which tours to the Nuffield Theatre Southampton and Soho Theatre.

MUDLARKS will be performed by Scott Hazell (credits include Roy Williams' Days of Significance for the RSC, and Flyboys, staring James Franco), James Marchant (credits include Gregory Burke's The Straits for Paines Plough / Hampstead Theatre and Lake Placid 3) and Mike Noble (credits include Simon Stephens' Punk Rock at the Lyric Hammersmith and the forthcoming film World War Z, directed by Marc Forster).

Steven Atkinson, Artistic Director of HighTide Festival Theatre commented "I admire Theatre503's tireless championing of new talent, and the launch pad it has provided to such talents as Katori Hall and The Mountaintop. I hope that by working together we can champion Vickie Donoghue, a truely exciting new talent, to the same ends."

About the Play: "The water looks sort of angry, don't it? Racing across the mud. Like it's coming for us! Haven't got long. We have to move soon.

"On the muddy banks of the River Thames, downstream from the bright lights of London, three boys hide from the police after a night of recklessness. Over the course of the freezing night their fears, secrets and dreams emerge, collide and combust revealing the desperate frustration of lives barely led but already ravaged.

"Essex-born Vickie Donoghue's powerful debut exposes the culture she grew up with and sees on a daily basis. With brutal honesty she explores how the impulse to dream is futile in the context of a reality that has no space for dreamers. Mudlarks heralds the arrival of an urgent new voice in British theatre."

MUDLARKS is directed by Will Wrightson, former HighTide Resident Assistant Director in 2011. It is designed by Amy Cook (66 Books, Bush Theatre), Lighting by Joshua Carr (Port Authority, Southwark Playhouse), and Sound and Composition by Richard Hammarton (The Mountaintop, Trafalgar Studios).

MUDLARKS will run at Theatre503 from May 29 to June 2 at 7:30p.m (matinee June 2 at 3pm). It premieres at HighTide Festival from May 4 to 13. Several performances are now sold out.

MUDLARKS has been generously supported by The Arts Patrons' Trust, The Bacon Charitable Trust, The Mackintosh Foundation and The Unity Theatre Trust.
