BWW speaks to the creators of The M.M.O.R.P.G Show ahead of their run at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

What does The M.M.O.R.P.G Show stand for?

MMORPG stands for Massive Multi-player On-stage Role Play Game

Tell us a bit about The M.M.O.R.P.G Show.

The MMORPG Show (or 'Mah-mor-pah-ga' for short) is an interactive fantasy show. At its heart is a pared down version of popular table top role playing games (Such as Dungeons & Dragons or Pathfinder) combined with improvised comedy.

How much are the audience involved?

Three members of the audience take on the roles and personas of characters in a narrative. They play through the story as those characters making decisions and taking actions in turns. All actions are played out on the roll of a large D20 (20 sided die) the result of which dictates how successful players have been.

As Games Master, it's up to me to interpret the results within the story. The rest of the audience are invited to suggest random details within the story.

It sounds far more complicated than it is!

What is the format of the show?

The format of the show is a combination of improvisation and gaming. There's no telling where the story will go, what the audience will suggest as obstacles or what The Players will decide to do. A good deal of betrayal is encouraged.

Who would you recommend comes to see The M.M.O.R.P.G Show?

MMO is designed to work for seasoned gamers and newbies alike. It's simple enough to pick up and play but involves enough to hold the interest of RPG fans.

There's no getting away from the fact it's quite a nerdy show but if you like story telling, fun and the look of blind panic on my face as the audience suggest a Welsh seagull named Colin is the guardian of a powerful artifact - then you'll enjoy this show.
