Broadway's acclaimed enfant terrible, two-time Tony Award nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent, Anna in the Tropics, The Rocky Horror Show, A Streetcar Named Desire) will make her long-awaited London debut in a special staged reading presentation of Aaron Mark's "spine-tingling and stomach-churning" (TimeOutNY), "utterly transfixing" (Theatermania) one-woman thriller, Empanada Loca. The one-night-only event will take place at London's The Other Palace (12 Palace Street, London, SW1E 5JA) on Saturday, August 12th at 8pm.

Loosely inspired by the legend of Sweeney Todd, Empanada Loca is "contemporary Grand Guignol horror in the style of Spalding Gray." Now living deep under Manhattan in an abandoned subway tunnel with the Mole People, a very hungry Dolores (Rubin-Vega) recounts her early years selling weed with her boyfriend, her return to New York's Washington Heights after thirteen years in prison, her fortuitous reunion with an old stoner friend who gives her room and board and lets her give massages for cash in the basement under his titular empanada shop, and the bloodbath that ultimately sends Dolores fleeing underground.

Presented Off-Broadway by LAByrinth Theater Company in 2015, Empanada Loca earnEd Rubin-Vega nominations for both the Drama Desk and the Outer Critics' Circle Awards.

All tickets for Empanada Loca at The Other Palace are only £7.50 and can be purchased at: https://www.theotherpalace.co.uk/whats-on/empanada-loca.

Additionally, an audio play version of Rubin-Vega in Empanada Loca has been recorded for a projected fall release.
