Canal Café Theatre Appoint Sandra Thompson-Quartey as Producer and General Manager

Canal Café Theatre are delighted to announce that they have appointed Sandra Thompson-Quartey as the new Producer and General Manager.

Sandra is also the Artistic Director and Producer at Writer's Avenue Theatre Company, which runs The Unleashed Showcases - new writing events that showcase emerging talent and theatre-makers. She has produced shows at Soho Theatre and The Pleasance, in some of which she has also directed, written or performed. Sandra owns Writer's Avenue Films which helps new writers develop scripts with female and ethnic minority protagonists. She is a lover of stand-up comedy and theatre looks forward to working at Canal Café Theatre.

Emma Taylor, Artistic Director of Canal Café Theatre, says, 'we were overwhelmed with the quantity and calibre of the applicants for the position and I am very much looking forward to working with Sandra. I am very sorry to say goodbye to former manager Annie Biddlecombe but wish her all the very best in her new role as Regional Programmer at ATG (maternity cover). Following on from our recent success with the UK premiere of Tennessee Williams's Fat Man's Wife, the new vision for the Canal Cafe Theatre is to develop our theatre programme so that it matches our comedy programme. Sandra's expertise and experience in the field of new writing coupled with her excellent managerial skills made her the ideal candidate for the role.'

Canal Café Theatre was founded in 1979 in Little Venice. It is home to award-winning topical sketch show NewsRevue, providing a starting block for many up and coming comedians such as Nick Helm, Sara Pascoe, Cariad Lloyd and Pippa Evans. Canal Café Theatre's in-house productions have included The Fat Man's Wife by Tennessee Williams, Lucky Stiff by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (nominated for Whatonstage Best Musical Revival), The Shawl by David Mamet and Stage Fright by Lynn Howes amongst numerous comedy and new writing nights.
