Anna-Jane Casey is as effervescent as usual when she takes a break from rehearsing Jerry's Girls, a reveue of the work of Jerry Herman, which opened at the St James Theatre this week.

"It's exciting, I love Jerry Herman, he's my favourite!" she enthuses. "In America it had Chita Rivera and Carol Channing, these grandes dames of musical theatre, but it's never been done here."

Casey's working alongside Ria Jones and Sarah-Louise Young on this show, with an almost all-female crew, and the atmosphere comes across as a very fun and supportive one.

She's already planning to pop across the road to the Victoria Palace, her old stomping ground when she was in the cast of Billy Elliot.

Jerry's Girls, as a revue, is a bit of a contrast, but Casey is nothing if not versatile, from her high-kicking at the Union Theatre in Bells Are Ringing to the satire of Forbidden Broadway to her concert work with the John Wilson Orchestra.

So what's she doing next?

"Am I allowed to say?" she wonders aloud. It sounds like her next role will be in a full-blown Jerry Herman musical...make of that what you will, and watch this space...

Anna-Jane Casey is in Jerry's Girls at the St James Theatre.
