Hi Carrie! How excited are you to be part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations?

Ridiculously so! I cannot wait. It's a dream come true to be in Les Miz full stop. From being Little Eponine it's something I've wanted all my life, so to be part of such a massive celebration of it is out of this world.

You've been associated with the show for so long - you're a fixture there now.

Yes! I've been playing Eponine since 2013.

How have the newer folk settled in?

They've been brilliant from day one. They're so smooth, especially when you're in the show and switch to a new cast, it just sort of happened! Everyone is so excited to be part of Les Miz, everyone works so hard to make sure the show is up to scratch and the ball isn't dropped at all. It kind of just happens all of a sudden, and you're working with a group of new people, but they're all amazing. Everyone settled in within the first two weeks.

What's it like for you people who stay on? Is it like the people who have left were never there?

It is really strange. It's part of showbiz, people swap in and out of roles all the time. That whole week of cast change, everyone's emotions are on a high; you're crying when you say goodbye to people, and then on Monday you're crying happy tears.

Les Miz is a slick machine - I guess new cast have to be prepared.

It really is. Everyone is welcoming and makes sure everyone knows what to do and where to be, and that makes it easier to slot new people into the show.

So in terms of the gala, this is going to be watched by millions eventually via YouTube and the official website. How do you feel?

I am nervous, yes! It's eventually going to be seen by way more than the theatre can hold, but it'll be amazing to show that finale to fans in other countries.

But of course there might be generations of fans who aren't old enough or born yet who'll see this!

You see that from just the movie coming out - it opens doors to a whole new generation who never would have heard of it or been interested if it weren't for that film. It's amazing that I'll be part of something that gets seen in years to come.

It's a big deal when you say it like that.

I try not to think about it too much, it'll freak me out!

One final thing - your fans have been lobbying for you to play Elphaba. How do you fancy a crack at that?

I would love to play Elphaba, it'd be a dream. One day, maybe!

Carrie Hope Fletcher plays Eponine in Les Miserables and features in the 30th Anniversary gala this week.
