Audra McDonald Announces London Concert, Jan 17!

Broadway's biggest star, Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winning performer Audra McDonald, comes to London as she plays an intimate show at the Leicester Square Theatre on 17th January 2016.

Singer and actress Audra McDonald is unparalleled in the breadth and versatility of her artistry, as both a singer and actress. With a record six Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and a long list of other accolades to her name, she is among today's most highly regarded performers.

Blessed with a luminous soprano voice and an incomparable gift for dramatic truth telling, she is equally at home on Broadway and opera stages as she is in roles on film and television. In addition to her theatrical work, she maintains a major career as a concert and recording artist, regularly appearing on the great stages of the world.

She will now come to London's West End for a special one off show at the Leicester Square Theatre where she will perform a wide range of songs both familiar and lesser known. Whether it's Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim or Kate Miller-Heidke, she brings deep insight and emotion to everything she sings, taking audiences with her on a journey through song.

It has been more than a decade since McDonald has graced a London stage, having last appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in 2002, where she was only the second American in more than 100 years invited to appear as a guest soloist at the Last Night of the BBC Proms (she also performed at the Proms in 1999 under Simon Rattle with the concert production of Wonderful Town). Also in 1999, her concerts at the Donmar Warehouse were recorded for television and later released on video by Nonesuch.

Classically trained at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, having appeared with virtually every major American orchestra - from the New York Philharmonic to the Berlin Philharmonic, as well as singing at New York's legendary Carnegie Hall a staggering seventeen times, McDonald is quite simply a tour de force.
