Online arts innovators Digital Theatre have announced the next title in their series of global online watchalongs; Michael Attenborough's acclaimed production of King Lear starring Jonathan Pryce, Phoebe Fox and Clive, captured live at the Almeida Theatre in 2012.

Celebrate 450 years of Shakespeare with theatre fans around the world. Simply purchase King Lear from Digital Theatre, press play today, 5 June at 7pm, and share your reactions in real time. Join in the conversation online using the Twitter handle @DigitalTheatre and the hashtag #LearOnScreen.

Directed by Michael Attenborough, King Lear was his final production as Artistic Director of the Almeida Theatre. Award-winning actor Jonathan Pryce plays the title role in a production that formed part of the World Shakespeare Festival in 2012.

When Lear asks each of his daughters to profess their love for him, he is flattered by the false hyperbole of Regan and Goneril. When his youngest daughter Cordelia confesses to love him simply as a daughter should, his pride is dented and he casts her out of his kingdom. Too late to realise his mistake, and forced from power by his offspring, an increasingly impotent and frail Lear descends into madness.

Robert Delamere, Co-Founder and CEO of Digital Theatre said: "our global online watchalongs simulate the unifying experience of attending the theatre, on a global scale. Previous watchalongs have sparked conversations between fans in Asia, America and Europe, and I look forward to reading reactions from theatre fans around the world on the 5th of June".
