24th May - 8th June District Wide Events.

Adur Festival is a celebration of arts and community and is co-ordinated by the Ropetackle Trust. Funded by Adur District Council and Arts Council England.

PROGRAMME LAUNCH

Come and pick up a copy of the 2014 programme, hot off the press! There will be previews, readings, meet the artists and event organisers and get some top tips on what's hot for 2014. 30th April at Ropetackle Centre, Shoreham 7.30p.m.

ADUR FESTIVAL BIG STREET PARTY!

There will be street performance and community activities across the district on the 24th May, our big carnival day. The theme this year is 'Strange Creatures' and schools, community groups and local artists will all be out in force on Adur's streets. Street party hotspots will be on North Rd in Lancing, on Pond Rd in Shoreham and at the Fishersgate Community Centre. There will be a real ale bar, live communal graffiti wall and giant street sculpture. Joining the party will be Ludwig the Giant Lobster from Colossal Crumbs, theatre walkabout from the Honk Project, a Giant Snail from the Insect Circus, Fanfara Brass Band playing dance music from Macedonia, and the Black Eagles acrobatic troupe. Everyone in the district is dressing up as a wild beastie and children from schools across the district have been working on Sock Puppet Creatures and costume creations. Expect the streets to be lined with all kinds of surprising species.

Mella Faye Punchard, Adur Festival Co-ordinator says, 'We are stopping the traffic and coming together to celebrate the brilliant and the absurd. The streets are going to be alive with colour and activity for an all ages fancy dress party. I can't wait!'

STRANGE CREATURE POP UP PET SHOP

At the Sompting Big Local Hub there will be a Strange Creature Pop Up Pet Shop. Last year the festival ran 'Adur Wonderland', which invited anyone to wander in off the streets and create a fantastic version of their own house, school or place of work and then stick it onto a giant floor map of Adur. The idea this year is to come along and create your own fantastical pet out of buttons, wire, cloth, bottle tops and anything else we can lay our hands on! The lead artist on the project, Jane Gordon of Arts Workshops, 'I'm really excited about fitting out the shop with all sorts of interesting boxes and displays. It's going to be an explosion of community activity and creativity and I'm so looking forward to seeing the results.'
