WVU School of Theatre and Dance is happy to announce a new scholarship opportunity for FREDDY© Awards participants. One student will be chosen to receive a full university tuition waiver, renewable for up to 4 years, to West Virginia University School of Theatre and Dance starting with the 2016-17 school year.

Students currently finishing their junior year of high school are encouraged to apply by downloading the application on the FREDDY© Awards Scholarship page at freddyawards.org/scholarships-community-awards or by applying online at www.ccarts.wvu.edu and selecting the 'FREDDY© Awards Scholarship' from the main page. Application deadline is May 15 and auditions will then be held at the State Theatre, Easton, PA on May 19th from 1-5. More information on the audition process is available on the application.

"We are so excited to have the opportunity to offer a scholarship at this year's FREDDY© Awards," comments Bryce Britton, Director of Musical Theatre at WVU School of Theatre and Dance. "After seeing the level of talent in past FREDDY© participants we knew this was a program we wanted to be involved with. The School of Theatre and Dance at West Virginia University has a long history of producing outstanding artists and we look forward to continuing that tradition with this year's Fine Arts Scholarship recipient from the FREDDY© Awards."

This is the first full tuition, four-year scholarship to be offered through the FREDDY© Awards, which has offered scholarship and community awards since the program's inception in 2003.

"This is a life-changing opportunity for a student who wants to pursue a career in the performing arts," says Shelley Brown, Creator and Executive Producer of the FREDDYs. "We are proud of the fact that, in addition to casting a spotlight on local theatre, the FREDDY© program has awarded over $450,000 dollars in scholarships and community awards since we began. This is another reason that we ask for community support for the FREDDYs, since all of these scholarship dollars go directly to students and schools, not to the State Theatre. Our sponsorships and donations are essential to keep it all going."
