The McLean Community Players’ production of Jesus Christ Superstar, the inspiring rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, opens July 10 at the Alden Theatre. Jesus Christ Superstar is considered one of the greatest rock operas ever created. It contains some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most memorable music. It is based on the accounts in the Gospels of the final days of Jesus of Nazareth, from his arrival in Jerusalem until his crucifixion. A large part of the plot focuses on the character of Judas Iscariot. Although the setting and style of the show are contemporary, it is faithful to the biblical accounts of the events. Co-directors Kevin and Pamela McCormack lead an award-winning cast and crew in bringing Jesus Christ Superstar to the Alden stage. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. at the McLean Community Center’s Alden Theatre, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean, VA 22101. Tickets are $23-$25 and are available at McLeanPlayers.org or by calling 866-811-4111. Group rates are also available. Further info: www.McLeanPlayers.org
