Salute to Tennessee Williams Cancelled at Ford's Theatre 1/31

The previously announced, America's Playwright at 100: A Salute to Tennessee Williams, scheduled for Monday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Ford's Theatre, has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts with the evening's star, Academy Award-winning actor Eli Wallach, and other key participants. The event was planned as a benefit to kick off the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival's year-long series of programming celebrating America's great playwright, culminating the in the festival's sixth season in Provincetown, M.A., at the end of September.

Ticketholders will be notified of the cancellation by phone and/or email. Automatic refunds of the ticket price and per-ticket service fees will be processed to the original method of payment within five business days. The celebration of Williams' centennial will continue in New York City on February 7, as the Festival co-hosts - along with Williams' publisher, New Directions - a star-filled Birthday Celebration at the 92nd Street Y. Theater luminaries Zoe Caldwell, Tony Kushner, Marian Seldes, Olympia Dukakis, Eli Wallach, John Guare and many others will read scenes from plays and letters in an unforgettable and remarkable evening.

In time for Tennessee Williams' 100th Birthday on March 26th, the festival launches a program called Hotel Williams in the renowned playwright's birthplace, Columbus, Mississippi, with performances on March 24-25, 2011. This signature collection of short plays written by Williams is set in hotel rooms in cities where he lived and visited. The program continues April 28 - May 1 at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, with performances in actual hotel rooms, transforming audience members from mere spectators to witnesses - not only to the action of the plays, but to the power of Williams' words. Performances are also planned at the 6th annual Festival in Provincetown, Mass., in late September.

Alongside the Hotel Williams series, the festival in Provincetown will also offer productions of Something Cloudy, Something Clear, The Parade, and Now the Cats with Jeweled Claws, among many others.

The sixth annual Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival will take place Thursday, September 22 through Sunday, September 25, 2011 at various venues in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Festival "Carte Blanche" passes are now on sale at www.twptown.org - with early bird pricing specials through January 31st, including VIP access to all shows.
