Now Playing Onstage in Washington, DC - Week of 4/13/2014 JARMAN - (ALL THIS MADDENING BEAUTY)
force/collision
4/17-4/27/2014
Jarman (all this maddening beauty) written by Caridad Svich is a solo mixed-media performance dedicated to British filmmaker Derek Jarman who died 20 years ago. The show will feature John Moletress, force/collision's founding artistic director who will also co-direct with Jacob Janssen. The performance will collide video projections, spoken and pre-recorded text, music and dance to address such themes as artistic aesthetic, queerness, post-detectable AIDS culture and legacy. Jarman asks the unapologetic question "what is beauty?" and "to what ends will we go to find beauty?". This solo performance is inspired by Jarman's life, work, aesthetic and artistic innovation.

World Premiere March 21-May 4, 2014 in the Kreeger Theater Sixty-two miles north of Washington, D.C., nestled in Catoctin Mountain Park, lies the clandestine retreat known as Camp David. How could such a massive thing be done in such a short amount of time? Artistic Director Molly Smith directs the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright's incredible new play based on incredibly true events. Camp David is part of Arena Stage's distinctive American President's Project, which investigates the lives and legacies of our nation's Presidents and their families.
