Naked Theatre to Bring BITCH: A PLAY ABOUT ANTIGONE to Capital Fringe, 7/10-27
Naked Theatre Company presents 'Bitch: A Play About Antigone' by Andy Boyd at the 9th Annual Capital Fringe Festival, July 10 - 27, 2014. Julia Sears will direct a cast featuring: Philip Bufithis, Tanya Chattman, Tamieka Chavis, Matthew Dundas, Rachael Jacobs, Dan Reno and Hannah Sweet.
'Bitch: A Play About Antigone' is a play from Massachussetts-based playwright Andy Boyd, directed by New York-based Julia Sears, performed in its DC premiere in our Nation's Capital. The Greek tragedy of Antigone is set against the backdrop of a city like DC and a country like the US of A.
Performed twice before outside of DC, Boyd's funny and sobering play has since undergone extensive edits and rewrites through NTC-sponsored readings and workshops with director, Julia Sears.
Playwright Andy Boyd says he is "particularly interested in the reaction of people who live in DC." He also comments on the play's 'transparent' overtones: "The question becomes this: does our government not care about our protests because it is so secure in its power that it knows our protests are meaningless? I have no answers. I have a few questions, and one angry ambivalent funny sad play."
The show's Director, Julia Sears, commented on approaching the piece: " The issue of government transparency is something we're inundated with in our political climate. What excites me about working on this play is the opportunity to start a conversation on the issues of transparency and transgression in all levels of government. Andy has used the classical text of 'Antigone,' which allows the story to pay out in a big theatrical context and offers different sides of the same story. I am also pleased to be working with artists from very different backgrounds, including academia, stand-up comedy, and media. They are all coming together to do this show, and Naked Theatre Company offers a chance for the audience to be a part of this conversation."
'Bitch' will run for five performances in the 2014 Capital Fringe Festival.

About Naked Theatre Company: Naked Theatre Company aims to bridge the gap between process and performance. We want our audiences to have an immersive experience with our shows from beginning to end, allowing you to see the process in a very raw and "naked" way. NTC will document portions of rehearsals and share updates via Live-tweets, Vines, and photos. We invite feedback from our audiences along the way. We want to engage in dialogue about the creative process and about the issues this play explores. As an incentive to commenters, we will hold a drawing for two complimentary tickets to the show. The more people comment, the more chances they have to win! All this culminates in a mini-documentary of the creative process to accompany our show.
