Today, December 19, 2012, at 10:20am, Ballou High School (3401 4th Street SE, Washington, D.C.) will host members of the LES MISERABLES U.S. tour cast. Students in the Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT) In-School Playwriting Program have spent twelve weeks writing original plays, and in their final playwriting workshop will have excerpts of their plays read by LES MISERABLES actors.

The U.S. tour of LES MISERABLES is running at The National Theatre until December 30. On December 19, actors will spend an hour in the classroom with a group of Ballou students, exploring the power of the written word and giving the students an opportunity to hear their work brought to life by professional actors.

Featured at the readings will be Brigitte Pribnow Moore, Executive Director, Young Playwrights' Theater; Laurie Ascoli, Program Manager, Young Playwrights' Theater; the LES MISERABLES actors and Ballou Senior High School students.

Young Playwrights' Theater teaches students to express themselves clearly and creatively through the art of playwriting. Through interactive in-school and after-school programs, YPT activates student learning and inspires students to understand the power of language and realize their potential as both individuals and artists. By publicly presenting and discussing student-written work, YPT promotes community dialogue and respect for young artists.
