This weekend, August 13, 14 & 15 Constellation Theatre Company will present Tom Teasley underscoring The Adventures of Prince Achmed at SOURCE 1835 14th St NW, Washington, DC. Tickets range from $20-45 and can be purchased online at www.ConstellationTheatre.org or over the phone by calling 202-204-7741.

Helen Hayes Award Winner Tom Teasley will play original world music live to underscore an enchanting animation film based on stories from The Arabian Nights. The heroic prince Achmed rides a flying horse into wondrous adventures. He falls in love with the beautiful Princess Peri Banu, and must defeat an army of demons to win her heart. Director Lotte Reininger used an intricate hand-cut silhouette technique to create pure cinematic magic.

The Adventures of Prince Achmed is the first full-length animated film, which debuted in 1926. It is still hailed as an enchanting masterpiece and one of the great classics: beautiful, mesmerizing, and utterly seductive! German visionary artist Lotte Reiniger creates stunning visuals with her hand-cut silhouettes and, with her elegant and intricate designs, brings characters vividly to life with a rare lyrical quality. Beautifully restored with its spectacular original color tinting, this dazzling adventure will enthrall children and film enthusiasts of all ages.

Tom Teasley first performed his original score of The Adventures of Prince Achmed in 2010 and continues to expand his work on live accompaniment of avant-garde films, such as those by Hans Reichter, and the expressionist science-fiction film Metropolis. Teasley enjoys a unique career as a multi-instrumentalist, percussionist, composer and collaborator. He has appeared in numerous Constellation Theatre shows, including The Fire and The Rain, The Love of the Nightingale, Metamorphoses and The Ramayana. Teasley also tours frequently throughout the world performing and teaching as a Cultural Envoy. A three-time recipient of a Fulbright-Hayes grant for performances in the Middle East, Teasley collaborated with indigenous musicians and gave historic performances in Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the West Bank and Jerusalem. He has been an artist-in-residence at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and has collaborated with the National Symphony as both a soloist and composer. Tom was awarded the 2014 Washington Area Music Award for best World Music Recording for the third consecutive year. More at tomteasley.com
