The Center for Unearthed Stories will present Fox Cried, an evening of discussion and performance on an ancient myth, today, January 30 - February 1 at the Back Alley Theatre in Northwest Washington, DC. A collaboration of composer Ethan Foote, theater artist Jack Novak and interdisciplinary visual artist Jane Claire Remick, the hour-long production is an exploration of a previously untold myth designed to lead the audience on an anthropological journey punctuated by original music and personal discovery.

Fox Cried was originally conceived for the 2013 Source Festival. As part of the Artistic Blind Dates program, Foote, Novak and Remick came together to write and produce a fifteen-minute piece that would connect thematically to the Festival's production of A Frontier, as told by the Frontier.

Constantly teetering on the line between performance and reality, Fox Cried takes the audience on an emotional journey, never sure if they are witnessing the interactions among three artists attempting to put on a show or the unfolding drama of the myth's central characters, Fox, Hare and Crow.

"In the performance, we explore how our personal, political and cultural narratives are formed through myth, folklore, and even through academia," said Remick. "Combining theater, performance art, music and new media genres, we look at how even the most ancient stories and objects are rooted in our existence today, and the personal and professional conflicts that arise as we start to unravel those connections."

To prepare audience members for the evening, supporting materials such as videotaped panel discussions on artifacts related to the myth and blog entries investigating myth and storytelling are available on Mythblog!, hosted by the Center for Unearthed Stories.

Performances of Fox Cried will take place tonight, January 30 at 8:00pm; Saturday, January 31 at 8:00pm and Sunday, February 1 at 8:00pm. All performances will be held at the Back Alley Theatre (1365 Kennedy Street, NW). Tickets are $10 and available in advance and at the door.
