Starting February 28, Imagination Stage brings back its show for the very young: Aquarium.

Aquarium runs weekends in Imagination Stage’s Christopher and Dana Reeve Studio Theatre February 28-April 8 at 10:30 and 11:45. Appropriate for ages one to five, tickets are $10, with a $5 lap seat for children under 12 months.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301-280-1660

“We are so excited to bring Aquarium back to Imagination Stage! And what better time to talk of the ocean, fish, and sandy beaches, to see the flying jelly fish and to experience the world of Aquarium than the winter, when we’re longing for the sunny days of summer?  Come and explore the natural world with your child as you have never seen it before,” says Kathryn Chase Bryer, Associate Artistic Director and head of early childhood programming at Imagination Stage.

Hyla Matthews Heyniger, who originated the role of Calypso in Aquarium’s previous productions at Imagination Stage, will return to the show with Phillip Reid as Jack.

Heyniger is an actress, comedian and teacher who, before moving to DC in 2009, performed on the Los Angeles comedy and improv theater scene, as well as in films and commercials.  Over the course of five years, she completed training programs with The Groundlings Theater and Second City LA, and performed for a year in the prestigious Groundlings Sunday Company sketch troupe.

Reid received his BFA in Theatre Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University, and spent a few years traveling as an actor with the National Players and Omaha Children’s Theatre. He has previously been seen at Imagination Stage in Dr. DolittleThe Wind in the WillowsPirates! A Boy At Sea, and How I Became A Pirate.

Following the performances at Imagination Stage, Aquarium will tour to the Atlas Theatre in Washington, D.C. from April 16-22, 2012. The role of Calypso will be performed by Kate Guesman while on tour. Guesman has previously been seen at Imagination Stage in Mouse on the Move and George & Martha: Tons of Fun. Ticket information can be found online at www.atlasarts.org.

In addition to Aquarium, Early Childhood programming at Imagination Stage includes the very popular Sunday Fun-Days. These single session workshops each explore a favorite book title to engage children and parents in multi-sensory play. Sessions start at 10:00 am Sunday mornings. Tickets and a full list of book titles are available online. Imagination Stage is also pleased to welcome the return of a favorite Early Childhood production, Wake Up, Brother Bear!, playing this summer (July 7-29). Watch as Brother and Sister Bear experience a full year of glorious seasons. Audiences will see a waterfall melt, meet a butterfly, chase an elusive fish, and skate on an icy pond. Children are invited to join the action with a small bag of props that help create magical moments. The show is recommended for ages one to five.
